New Top Gear, you disappoint

That show would suck......Cause we don't get ANY cool cars they cant already get.

I really didn't think the show was that hateful. Better than Top Gear UK? Definantely not. Better than The Car Show on Speed? No. But is being the 3rd best car show on TV really all that bad? The 3rd best CSI and 3rd best Law & Order made tons of money after a few years of so-so ratings. I'd say if they get their act together within the next two seasons the show will really take off.

Justin, you make a good point but maybe do a test on trucks because they don't really have trucks in the uk or maybe even some jeeps or something like that plus top gear uk has done a few episodes where they test our cars over here like the challenger and zr1 and stuff but either way...

Give top gear usa a few more seasons you say but why would I wait and watch it when I can just continue watching a show I already enjoy that will continue to get better rather than watching both and in my mind, top gear usa will always be copying top gear uk in anything top gearish

:dunno: Then don't watch it. Doesn't hurt my feelings and I'm confident History channel won't care. If TGUK is your bag and that's what you want to watch, more power too you. I love TGUK but I'll continue to watch the USA version as well. If it gets unbearable I'll stop, but for now it's not horrible.

I was pretty funny to watch the fat one and the shitty comedian get covered in dirt/mulch. The rest kind of sucked. No washed up half celeberity driving the Kia? No super car test? No car news????!!!???

Unless my DVR crapped out, the entire episode was the pointless fake truck test.

I'm not hating on it much. Needs more news and actuals tests, but it's not bad. I'd love to see Tanner get replaced though: Driver-yes, host-not so much.

It ain't the UK version, which I enjoy, but this also isn't the UK. If that is what you're looking for, there are plenty of times to catch it instead. :dunno:

The lifted e30 wasn't even the same e30 they started with. The steering wheel was different in the lifted one. The maverick had a different color interior. A lifted miata with huge mud tires? Do you know how slow a stock miata is? Imagine one trying to lug 300 lbs of tires with it. That is easily one of the dumbest things I have ever seen. And the fact that they try and say they fabbed those vehicles overnight is insane. Custom lifts for 3 obscure vehicles in 12 hours? Come on History Channel.

Watching Top Gear once again which shows I am at least trying but I have one comment I have noticed twice in this episode(The dually test one)

Tanner could possibly win a race if he would stop doing burnouts at each start. He did it in his dually which he said probably cause him to lose and then he races an airboat and you can tell his burnout put him further behind than he would have been. Professional race car driver? C'mon Tanner, what the hell are you doing besides making Americans look like we only care about tire smoke. Which may be why he does it because he is trying to cater to his audience. After all this is amurca and if you don't like burnouts and Nascar then you can

its the same reason Jeremy on TGUK tests every single car by taking it around a runway complex ass-backwards in smoking slides. people want entertainment and loud noises. of course the pro driver will win, they have to incite some drama into the production to make it halfway interesting.

its easy to see its not the fast way, and i'm sure Tanner knows it.

Episode was marginally better than the last. Chalk that up to my inner redneck and love of trucks maybe. However, I did not like their choice of tests for the trucks. The drag race, good, and a must have for any car comparison. I know as many guys that race their duallys as pull with them. The burnout contest? Neat, but not overly useful. The thing that I hated was the "pulling tests." They could have had just as much entertainment value and been much more productive if they had done tests like, who can pass a car on a mountain road the fastest with a 20k pound trailer. Who can slow down the fastest with a 15k pound trailer. Who can successfully complete a mile long offroad course towing a tractor on a flatbed without damaging anything. More real world tests. I'm glad the chevrolet could pull down a telephone poll, but I bet I could make that happen in my silverado, and it's a gas motor. The train? Impressive. The house? Any truck with a tow strap and a big run and go could do that. That's all shock pressure and very little towing power.

I didn't watch the entire episode but I did like the vehicles they chose to test...I was unaware the Dodge was only a 6.7l 6cyl...Just seems tiny for a big 3500 like that. The other vehicle Tanner tested was pretty cool and I am not going to lie...if entourage wasn't on, I probably would have watched the whole episode. Burnout contest was stupid but oh well. TGUK does some stupid tests as well so I can't complain too much.

As far as the entertainment value goes, yes Jermey drifts cars around the tracks and what not but he also gives insight into why the car does that. Instead of doing a burnout before each race you do, perhaps a few drifts throughtout or maybe just be a race car driver...but I don't know how they are going to find on of those :dunno: For this episode, as Ryan said, I would have liked to see a test of the trucks towing or other capabilty things with entertainment thrown in. And then throw some of the stupid tests in as well. The hill climb was kind of stupid becasue Tanner just floored it like an idiot and sank in where the Ford was fully capable of making it up the hill. Now a hill climb towing something or weighed down, maybe and then put a restricter on Foust's throttle so we can actually see what the truck is capable of.

I think the truck tests could have been better - like Ryan said, do some tow tests, after all that's what these trucks are for. The tests he mentions would be a lot more entertaining for me. I did like the "train tow" bit.
