New Top Gear, you disappoint - Sully - 07-24-2011 So previews for top gear america looked promising for the new season. Of course, it wouldn't be top gear top gear but maybe an interesting show anyways. Watched part of it and all I can say is wtf. A show branded as top gear has an e30 and a miata in the same episode and it wasn't even good. Let's start with a forced feel rather than a flow like british top gear. Everything is like a monologue and nothing sounds like they arn't reading from a script. They completley stole british top gear's run into may thing but they run into each other but that as well is forced and looks like he is trying to do it just to be like british top gear. Then the raw BS, I'm no expert but I've spread mulch many times in my life and seen a mulch yard where you pick it up from. Mulch smells but not horrible....the guys say they are loading their cars up with manuer or shit as they constantly refer to it...any manue I have seen looks like top soil and is a dark color. Ok so there may be different grades or whatever but why does their "manuer" look exactly like mulch and have dust blow off exactly like mulch and they pick it up from a mulch yard they I didn't see any pure manuer type substances around. Yes mulch may contain some manuer in it but I have spread lots of mulch that looks like what they get and have never dry heaved or bitched and moaned about it. (And those who know me, know I like to bitch and moan). I can only hope this is the final season of american top gear and history gives all the money they spent to british top gear and brodcast it on history channel rather than. Sorry watchin as I type and they are seriously stupid, they said to test the carrying capacity of their "farm trucks" and they said minus manufacturers weight from scaled weight, the retarded dude adam cut half his roof off..I wonder if that would effect the weight or anything but hey what do I know. I have given it 3 tries over two seasons, I believe this will be my last. British top gear for the win...american top gear for the loss or the retarded society we cater to. Re: New Top Gear, you disappoint - JustinG - 07-25-2011 they are trying too hard, I like the big guy, Rutledge Wood? The comedian dude needs to be shot in the face and Foust has the personality of a rock, and not a cool shiny rock, a piece of driveway gravel. I dunno, im trying to like it, I wish they would just do their own damn thing, but its just hard not to be like, well its no British Top Gear. Re: New Top Gear, you disappoint - Ken - 07-25-2011 I mean I watch it; if you're going to consistently compare it to something that is well established and operates under different guidelines then yes it will consistently dissapoint. I just wish they'd stop trying to be so much like BTG and do their own thing. I'll watch regardless because I don't feel that i'm too good for it. Re: New Top Gear, you disappoint - Steve85 - 07-25-2011 Anybody catch Car Show hosted by Adam Carolla? Much better show... The way I see it is no, its not as good and the hosts are a little awkward. Compared to British automotive entertainment its pretty bad. But if you compare it to American automotive entertainment, I mean, has anyone seen Motorweek? That shit is awful. If you compare it to stuff stateside, at least we're moving in the right direction. I do want to see that new show Adam Corolla is doing though. Re: New Top Gear, you disappoint - Sully - 07-25-2011 JustinG Wrote:they are trying too hard, I like the big guy, Rutledge Wood? I am comparing it to British Top Gear which it will never equal becasue they are trying to hard to be BTG. If they would do their own thing, I might enjoy it more but until they do that I have no choice but to compare to what they are trying to be. I don't mind Rutledge Wood although he is one of the monologue problems when he narrates the shows and I don't mind Foust that much although he's no Hammond, but I could deal with him as long as the other two hosts had personality to fill in. I agree with you 100% Jusitn about the other guy. I can't stand him and think he should be ![]() Just found the same discussion in OT bimmerforums and most of the comments are the same, they need to stop trying to be BTC and "It needs to be Tim Allen, Jay Leno, and some other car guy with a personality." Re: New Top Gear, you disappoint - Steve85 - 07-25-2011 JustinG Wrote:Steve85 Wrote:Anybody catch Car Show hosted by Adam Carolla? Much better show... John Sally (NBA), a NY Times Writer, some guy from Smoking Tire.com and Adam. They are very different people but interact very naturally. They start off with about 5 topics they hit for 60 seconds each and then move into a format very much like Top Gear. The one I saw had them teaching models to drive stick in an autox type course in an ACR Viper. The format obviously works, but you need to the personalities to gel and they do here. It never felt awkward. Re: New Top Gear, you disappoint - Ken - 07-25-2011 hmmm... i'll have to check that out then... Re: New Top Gear, you disappoint - G.Irish - 07-25-2011 Sully Wrote:Seinfeld! Re: New Top Gear, you disappoint - Sully - 07-25-2011 ^True, I have seen a few of the early episode, nothing like the new ones but then again, if we already have a great show branded as top gear, why do we need another one? :dunno: Re: New Top Gear, you disappoint - BLINGMW - 07-25-2011 Sully Wrote:if we already have a great show branded as top gear, why do we need another one? :dunno:no joke. I don't get it either. But hey, why make "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" again when it was just made into a very good movie in '09? :dunno: I sat through two episodes of this "new" one over the weekend and was similarly unimpressed. Very little time spent doing anything awesome, lots of time spent talking about subjects they didn't seem educated about or have a valid opinion on, time spent just driving at legal speeds on regular roads, and these really lame "celebrity" interviews where the hosts and crowd pretend that what they're saying is interesting. I REALLY care about Kid Rock's opinions and automotive preferences. A lot of Hollywood suffers from the same delusion. "Hey look, this show CSI is getting good ratings, let's make another show called CSI: Miami, ooh, then CSI: NY." The problem in Top Gear USA's case is that they're not doing a very good job of copying the original. It's kinda like that guy in high school who's trying to be cool by being someone they're not. If they'd just be themselves they'd be way cooler. I think they can still call it Top Gear USA, just that they need to stake out their own identity. Get some guest hosts on the show that are there for the whole episode (e.g. Tim Allen, Seinfeld, Leno, etc.). Instead of the Stig, why not get a surprise professional driver every few episodes. Stop using that broke ass autocross course and film at a real racetrack. I can guarantee there would be a lot more buzz about the show if the lap times were from a real racetrack that people could compare their times to (and argue about). All in all, I can't say the show is terrible. Just not good enough for me to really go out of my way to watch it. They really to shape up soon though, otherwise it'll be cancellation city. Re: New Top Gear, you disappoint - Sully - 07-25-2011 How about Top Gear USA which airs after Top Gear UK Season wise so we have Top Gear all the time rather than airing within the same programming season and we just use Clackson, Hammond, and May in both. They work all the time but get paid millions, and the only difference is that Top Gear USA tests cars we can actually buy over here. On second thought, without the proper time to do there specials and such, both shows would suffer. New plan, once a season, Top Gear UK covers American cars for one show like not American made cars but cars that are marketed to the US . I heard the Top Gear USA has the same writer as Top Gear UK, rumor :dunno: |
