Hey guys. This will be my third year at JMU as a geology major. I don't own a car but I do own a currently non-running 1978 Kawasaki Kz200. I'm in the process of restoring it. The only thing I need now to make her run is a head and camshaft. Can anyone help? I was told by Jake Thiews that some of you have built motorcycles. Well its time to shine and show your stuff. Oh I'm also going to try to start up a motorcycle club at JMU hopefully working with Madison Motorsports. Anyone down?
-Thanks,
Michael

Motorcycle club was attempted several times, but the majority of the motorcycle guys just like to dip around town and feel all cool revving their bikes.

However, we do have a large contingent of bike guys, and I know RJ has restored a really nice older Honda (ps I know nothing about bikes).

Might want to contact Phil Layman as I beleive he was an "officer" of the JMU motorcycle club for when it was somewhat active.

I had an idea to restart the motorcycle club my freshman year.. I don't even own a bike but was always riding when I get the chance.. It will be a lot of work but we may be able to get together and hash some ideas.. Keep looking on craigslist for stuff. Post up in the Members Projects so we can see picks of this! I've been looking around since forever for an early honda cb or kz to build into a cafe racer to ride around town with..

Here's my lame photochop rendition for a JMU Motorcycle Club banner...

For parts - if there's not an old kwaker forum, then ebay is your best bet. Ebay has gotten me most of what I've needed for my old hondas.

I like it. Were you still interested in creating a club? My brother who is currently attending UVA just started a car club and only has around 10 members but thats because he started it up in the second semester, so it is possible to do. I think we could get a bunch of people together. Members don't need to have bikes, just an interest in them. Our mission would be to just increase peoples interest in motorcycles and eliminate that mindset of only douchebags reving their engines around campus. Yeah I'll post my project see what you all think. If you know people interested in motorcycles and possibly wanting to start a club, send them my way.
-Thanks and see you around,

welcome!

Just bring more bikes into MM! One goal of MM is to drag the show and street racing guys into something a little more productive, so it's a fit for bikes too. Heck, most of us have one or have tried them. If you want to make a contribution, go to a couple meetings, get the current MMembers to appoint you as Bike Czar, and find ways to capture interested students and direct them towards non-deadly activities. Provide interested people who don't have a bike with buying advice (a slow, cheap one!), give them some incentive to take the MSF, encourage them to wear proper gear (ATGATT), get them signed up for free sessions with NESBA, see if you can open windows to other clubs to trade working for free track time, organize non-idiotic rides, and get them all to come to the car show. Get some smaller fork and frame friendly MM stickers printed up too. Plenty to do.

Creeper Question: If you don't have a car, where do you live? If you live in Sunchase I may be interested in acquiring your parking pass. 8-)

Thats assuming I can make my own motorcycle run.

Yeah that does sound like a lot to do..but also sounds quite manageable. Um I will be living on campus next year (more convenient) since I won't have a vehicle..I might be bringing my motorcycle, thats if I get her running. I'm still in search of that head and cam. Also I'm currently located in Leavenworth Kansas.
