So now that things are ironed out, I guess I can announce...I got a new job!!
This is a pretty big deal for me, I've been mulling over and praying about my current job for a long time. I posted in another thread about what I didn't like about it, so I'm not going to really go into that much again. Long story short, one of my girlfriend's clients works for Career Builder. She mentioned to him a while back that I had been casually job searching and he told her they were hiring and to pass on my resume to them. I spoke with him and he passed my resume on to the regional manager. Set up a few interviews and was offered the job during the second one. It was an incredible opportunity and although I took a slight hit on my base salary from what I was looking for I was ok with it.
Well I get a call a few days later and the manager who made the offer told me that HR couldn't approve my base salary + car allowance + cell phone allowance because it was more than what most reps in the nation were making. She came back with a much lower base and no car allowance. I told her that financially it wouldn't work for me so I explained why I could jump right in and do the job I would have been promoted to within about a year. She had confidence I could do it so I got the official offer letter for the higher position on Friday!!
I will be handling some of Career Builder's larger accounts (Fortune 500 - 100 companies) in an account management / sales role. I will be flying all over the nation which I am REALLY excited about. This job will give me a really solid base salary, $400/mo car allowance, $150/mo cell allowance and the bonus for meeting my quota is more than what I made all of 2010 as a 1099. My biggest challenge will be a really high quota coming right into the company, but I am confident in my abilities. Oh, did I mention that I will have cheap benefits again?!? 401k again. So excited for that. And they start from day 1 which is awesome.
It was tough telling my two best friends that I was leaving their company, but it was something that was a long time in coming. It's tough to go into business with your friends. But they are happy for me and it was a good "breakup". I sold really strong for them before I left and I have a bunch of front and back end commissions they are still going to pay me on. I have to go clothes shopping now...need a new suit, some new dress shirts and slacks and stuff. My dress code has been business casual for the past 2 years...that doesn't go over well in boardrooms haha
Anyway I'm super excited, I feel like this is going to be my first "big boy" job and it will allow me to spend more time with my girlfriend and start giving more (especially to my church) which has been on my heart lately.
