I also suggest the JMU ski team (not the race team). They have an uber fun trip to Canada every year that I would go to again ifI wasnt an alumni.

And yeah, I was on the race team at Bryce (quit when I got a snowboard) and you do learn a lot. Even if you think your good already, you'll be amazed how quickly your bad habits are exposed in the gates.
we trained at Bryce on Tuesdays and Thursdays (sometimes wednesdays). we also had an annual race at Bryce every season (pending weather)
you know Locher? he was our main coach when i was on the team. a great guy, a fun coach, and an incredible skiier - ridiculously fast. taught me a lot about the true meaning of carving and riding my edges in ice. i just wish i spent more years on the team, that single year was my only year on a competitive ski team...
i was on the regular B-team slalom and with a little training i think i could've made the a better GS skier too.
Yeah, I know the Locher family well. Ryan is a bad ass and so is his dad. Ryan and I are close in age so I didn't get to work with him too often..he was usually off competing in national events. An Olympic hopeful I believe until some guy named Tomba came along and changed what it meant to be a powerful skier. Ryan is built more like the Mahre brothers. He was working the group lesson my sons were in last weekend, His dad Horst and uncle Manfred have run the place for as long as I can remember and are just good people.
I like GS myself and hope to do some NASTAR this year for shits and giggles.

I have a little bit of a rub near lock but if you are turned to lock on a track there are other problems already...
I was on the team briefly back during freshman year- it is now actually a club sport. I really didnt have a great time- being able to practice on the course and getting instruction was great, but it was mainly a drinking club that did some racing occasionally. I went to a race weekend where half the team didnt get up to race the next morning because they were still sleeping off the last night. Sounds like it has gone down hill since you were a member, but the racing aspect definitely was a lot of fun.
And I am definitely up for organizing an MM ski trip! Maybe a weekend in Snowshoe where we can all pitch in on a condo or something? Sounds like a good time!
