I know a few current students dont have cars/dont want to drive, etc. Anyways this weekend I will be at JMU, and saturday and sunday days we will be going to snowshoe. Each day we will be leaving in the morning and returning at night to JMU. I figured I would offer up a ride to anyone that wants to join us to go to snowshoe. I have one spot available in the back of the M3 (have a ski rack on it so no problem with skis), and we have an extra car that I could check if we have space in as well. Figured id offer it up as ill be at JMU anyway.

I would love to go, but money's tight at the moment. Saturday is Busted Pile wrench day anyway.
Thanks for the offer though - I'm sure I'll see you at N38 in the evenings for some chilled fruit punch.

i agree, except i'm going tomorrow morning (whitetail) to prepare for a week at Okemo (next week)!
So how was the snow skiers?
We spent the day at Bryce. Put the kids in SkiWee, I made a few runs while the wifey chillaxed in the lodge then took the kids down the bigger bunny hill. Good times.. It's not a very exciting place (and since my 'rents are members the price is certainly right) but it's a second home to me and I am enjoying watching the kids learn where I did.

crowded as expected - i hate waiting in lift lines, so that will be the last time i go to another mid-atlantic resort for skiing this season. the slopes weren't that bad, but skiing on slush is not what i usually like to do - it was a good warm-up for next week
You should consider Timberline in Canaan Valley, WV. It's not for the folks that prefer a spa-laden, commercialized area. The lifts aren't high speed, there's no starbucks, but the conditions are every bit as good as Showshoe and it has 1000' Vert.

I definitely look forward to being able to get out more often. Haven't been to Whitetail yet and this is the last time I went to Snowshoe...

That board was sooo much better than the Cruzer 165 split tail thing. That thing didn't like to turn or go straight... it was hell to learn on on mid-atlantic hard pack. The instructions said "keep your weight forward, steer with your back foot"...OOOOKay.
Didn't help that snowboards weren't allowed on the lifts/slopes at first. Bryce used to close from 4:30 to 6 and I'd walk up about 500yds with that heavy ass board and kill myself again and again. Once I got it though, the skis went in the basement for a loooong time.
How about an MM ski/snowboard day? Non-holiday weekend, hit the slopes then a few beers after??

that reminds me:
for all those current students at JMU who are experienced snowboarders or skiers, if you're interested in competing look into the JMU Ski Racing and Board Racing Team. i was a member of this my senior year and i wish i found out about the organization sooner because i would've joined. i competed during the year at the four races in the season. it's a little expensive, but don't let that deter you if you can afford it. i had such a good time and highly recommend it for anyone who desires to learn more. i wasn't great when i joined, but i learned a LOT from the coaches on proper form and really hitting the gates with speed and momentum.
^^^Did you guys train at Massanutten or Bryce? I remember seeing the JMU team for many years at Bryce working with Horst and Ryan.
And yeah, I was on the race team at Bryce (quit when I got a snowboard) and you do learn a lot. Even if you think your good already, you'll be amazed how quickly your bad habits are exposed in the gates.
