Snowshoe this weekend. - D_Eclipse9916 - 01-15-2010 I know a few current students dont have cars/dont want to drive, etc. Anyways this weekend I will be at JMU, and saturday and sunday days we will be going to snowshoe. Each day we will be leaving in the morning and returning at night to JMU. I figured I would offer up a ride to anyone that wants to join us to go to snowshoe. I have one spot available in the back of the M3 (have a ski rack on it so no problem with skis), and we have an extra car that I could check if we have space in as well. Figured id offer it up as ill be at JMU anyway. Re: Snowshoe this weekend. - Jake - 01-15-2010 I would love to go, but money's tight at the moment. Saturday is Busted Pile wrench day anyway. Thanks for the offer though - I'm sure I'll see you at N38 in the evenings for some chilled fruit punch. Re: Snowshoe this weekend. - BLAIR - 01-15-2010 damn i should be going. snowshoe is the only half way decent mountain in the mid atlantic Re: Snowshoe this weekend. - DavidL - 01-15-2010 Have fun with MLK weekend crowds! One of the only times during the year I will NOT ride-- Re: Snowshoe this weekend. - Sijray21 - 01-15-2010 DavidL Wrote:Have fun with MLK weekend crowds! One of the only times during the year I will NOT ride-- i agree, except i'm going tomorrow morning (whitetail) to prepare for a week at Okemo (next week)! Re: Snowshoe this weekend. - Steve85 - 01-16-2010 So how was the snow skiers? We spent the day at Bryce. Put the kids in SkiWee, I made a few runs while the wifey chillaxed in the lodge then took the kids down the bigger bunny hill. Good times.. It's not a very exciting place (and since my 'rents are members the price is certainly right) but it's a second home to me and I am enjoying watching the kids learn where I did. Re: Snowshoe this weekend. - Sijray21 - 01-17-2010 crowded as expected - i hate waiting in lift lines, so that will be the last time i go to another mid-atlantic resort for skiing this season. the slopes weren't that bad, but skiing on slush is not what i usually like to do - it was a good warm-up for next week Re: Snowshoe this weekend. - PDenbigh - 01-17-2010 You should consider Timberline in Canaan Valley, WV. It's not for the folks that prefer a spa-laden, commercialized area. The lifts aren't high speed, there's no starbucks, but the conditions are every bit as good as Showshoe and it has 1000' Vert. Re: Snowshoe this weekend. - .RJ - 01-17-2010 ^ snow biking? Re: Snowshoe this weekend. - D_Eclipse9916 - 01-17-2010 Loved it!!! Was great but rained today so we couldnt do today. Definitely be doing another trip in february. A million times better than whitetail. Re: Snowshoe this weekend. - DavidL - 01-18-2010 Good to hear about Snowshoe- definitely need to make it up there for a weekend in the near future! Started off the season well this year with a little Swiss skiing: ![]() ![]()

Haven't been to Whitetail yet and this is the last time I went to Snowshoe... ![]() Niiiice jacket ey? :vomit:

I've decided that IF I ever decide to kill myself on the slopes I'm going in circa-1985 ski wear. Re: Snowshoe this weekend. - D_Eclipse9916 - 01-19-2010 ^^^ Pure awesomeness lol. That thing didn't like to turn or go straight... it was hell to learn on on mid-atlantic hard pack. The instructions said "keep your weight forward, steer with your back foot"...OOOOKay. Didn't help that snowboards weren't allowed on the lifts/slopes at first. Bryce used to close from 4:30 to 6 and I'd walk up about 500yds with that heavy ass board and kill myself again and again. Once I got it though, the skis went in the basement for a loooong time. How about an MM ski/snowboard day? Non-holiday weekend, hit the slopes then a few beers after?? Re: Snowshoe this weekend. - Sijray21 - 01-21-2010 that reminds me: for all those current students at JMU who are experienced snowboarders or skiers, if you're interested in competing look into the JMU Ski Racing and Board Racing Team. i was a member of this my senior year and i wish i found out about the organization sooner because i would've joined. i competed during the year at the four races in the season. it's a little expensive, but don't let that deter you if you can afford it. i had such a good time and highly recommend it for anyone who desires to learn more. i wasn't great when i joined, but i learned a LOT from the coaches on proper form and really hitting the gates with speed and momentum. Re: Snowshoe this weekend. - Steve85 - 01-21-2010 ^^^Did you guys train at Massanutten or Bryce? I remember seeing the JMU team for many years at Bryce working with Horst and Ryan. And yeah, I was on the race team at Bryce (quit when I got a snowboard) and you do learn a lot. Even if you think your good already, you'll be amazed how quickly your bad habits are exposed in the gates. |
