He has a meccatune (ebay) kit with 9006 bulbs, this will not fit an OEM kits which as blair said ARE D2S and D2R bulbs depending on the manufacturer.

blair, while i would definitely like to upgrade the lighting in the miata seeing as how its tiny and the headlights arent great (compared to the HID's in the STi), i cant drive around with high beams on. i live next a police station and i often drive home at night, so i dont think it'd be a wise move. is it seriously that much brighter? i guess i'm not sure what your HID bulbs look like so i guess thats why i cant grasp why it doesnt have seperate high beams. i'd like to get some insight though and perhaps work something out

Maeng, if im not mistaken you have a single bulb, that does both high and low beam, this is a dual filament bulb so you get both filaments on with high beam and only one with low beam. Im pretty sure blair only has regular HIDs, not the Bi Xenon bulbs needed for H4, Bi xenon bulbs have 2 "Filaments", allowing you to have high and low beam, where regular HIDs only have one "Filament" allowing for only Low beam.

( I know HIDs don't have filaments just using it for simpler explanation)

you would loose your high beams all together because you have a dual filiment bulb that changes over when you click you high beams on. hid bulbs are only single filiment and cant click over to high beams. ( unless your car has a separate high beam bulb? I dont know miatas at all. In that case you would be fine. Also a stock headlight that isnt created for a HID bulb may have some issues with blinding people. Each car is a different case. It may or may not be an issue for you?

ah, i see... yeah miatas do have dual filament bulbs. ah well, its not really a priority with this car, but it would've been nice to have. perhaps if i make another impulse buy, then i'll look into this.

I would like to have my actual H7 bulbs replaced as the ones that came with the HID kit don't seem to work properly.

your best bet is to just get a whole new kit i would think. the HID bulbs i have wouldnt work on your harness plug.

Wow, all this jargon! Whatever the case, thanks for helping anyway. I will be waiting on the previous owner to pay for new bulbs.

My bad H7s I couldnt remember. Ciro why dont you do a real retrofit with blair having the real ktis so cheap??? All you would need to do is cut out your stock projector housing and put in a Hella or stock HID projector housing from another vehicle. That way youll have real cutout, long lasting bulbs and longlasting ballasts.

If you can get new bulbs for free, use em, but they will go out sooner rather than later. If you have to pay for new bulbs, junk the kit or sell the kit you got and go do an OEM retrofit, youll be way happier in the end, and it will also have mcuh better cutoff and will be much brighter, yet aimed correctly.

Thanks for the advice...seeing that the Crossfire might be gone in late June if I decide not to buy the car at the end of the lease, I probably will just wait to see what the previous owner can do to help me out. If I do decide to keep the car, I will certainly get the true retrofit kit. Money is real tight right now though, so I can't just throw it around.

Alrighty, the previous owner has not responded back...Does anyone know where, if, how, I can get only the replacement bulbs for my cheapo-hid kit?
