How ignorant your car knowledge once was/ maybe is?

1. Well back in HS my bud had a 91 Escort. 5-speed plain Jane with 301,000miles on it. Well, after some talking I got him to put racing stripes on it, some 13in chrome hubcaps, and I made a wire mesh grill to replace the stock one. It was so gay. I actually apologized for that last week "dude I'm sorry for what I did to your car.ÔÇØ

1-B- Dumbest thing I have ever seen- A neon came into the garage with a paint pan liner (roller pan) taped to the hood as a "hood scoop."

2. I have never wreaked a car, but I came close once. I was running a van for an hour to make sure an intermittent problem had been solved for. I took it out a back road for a joy ride. It belonged to a customer mind you. I wasn't going to fast, just enjoying the scenery. Then I went looking for the legendary "Saumsville bumps." I had never been there but boy oh boy did I know when I found them.

Imagine if you will a 1500 Dodge cargo van full (and I mean full) of computer parts going 4ft off the ground. The road just dropped out from under me at 65mph....it was a rush. Then it did it again, maybe 3ft of air the second time. Then about 30ft in front of me was a stop signwow I had to stop and pick up all the tools and parts and make sure I didnt bust the van up.

10 minutes later i hear my alarm go off and see my hatch on my neighbor's lawn 2 feet from the mailbox.

I knew even less than I do know about cars before I bought the eclipse. So with all of my knowledge coming from it I did not know of the following:

Throttle body injection. Distributors. That front engine rwd cars have the shifter go directly into the tranny. Wet timing chains. Mechanical fans. That new car are now using fly by wire. A whole bunch of different suspension types. Mechanical fuel pumps.

I'm sure there are other things I learned along the way that totally blew my mind because I find them either outdated and dumb or just crazy and cool and something I never would have thought about.
