Honestly not a bad idea... although they're not quiiiite on sale yet. But a mid-trim Gladiator would be pimp and perfect for towing an open.

And they'll probably have a dealer mark-up with all the hype for the next couple years

I'm so excited for 2nd or 3rd year diesel Gladiator, but I think this is the first time I've heard of a diesel variant towing less than gas...

https://www.roadandtrack.com/car-shows/l...ow-rating/

Quote:The cooling needs presented a challenge: The 3.o-liter EcoDiesel V6 engine, available on the Gladiator at a later date, will be a powerhouse, cranking out 442 lb-ft of torque. But it won't achieve the full 7650-lb towing capacity of the base Gladiator engine, the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6. Simply put, the turbodiesel's charge-air cooler eats up some of the airflow coming through the grille, slightly reducing the effective cooling area. Towing numbers are still being finalized for the diesel Gladiator, but expect its towing capacity to be about 500 pounds lower than the gasser.

I'm sure the diesel will be awesome in all sorts of situations including towing, but letting intercooler packaging lop off 500 lbs of capacity sounds so half assed to me.  Or, something the aftermarket will I'm sure quickly fix.

I don't really see the benefits to these small trucks with diesel engines. At least at the moment. Gas is so cheap right now. Is paying the extra $ for diesel worth a few more MPGs? I do not believe most people buying a small truck like this plan to tow. Hell it is rare to even see a Ram 1500 diesel on the road.

Yeah neither did I. I was changing the topic to Goodspeed getting excited about the diesel Gladiator.

It would be sweet if Taylor bought one though. It would probably have a speaker rattle on day 3 that we would get stories about.
