VIR Octoberfast 6-8th
#21
I was going to make a separate thread but I don't think it's necessary at this point so I'll try to update this with all the necessary and important info.

What: karting (y'all should be signed up by now)

Where: vir

When: you need to be there by 3 o clock Saturday *lastest*. You can arrive anytime after 5pm friday. You need to be at the karting course by 5pm. The race is a 2 hour Enduro from 6:30-8:30pm.

How long: you're gonna be there all weekend

Sleep: your officers have secured two 4 person tents and there will be extras as well. We should be able to fit everyone. Bring something soft for yourself. Air mattress, sleeping bag, sleeping pad (UREC has these for rent) and something to wrap yourself in, the temp will be cozy most likely

Hygiene: I'm gonna remind Ryan Green who I think is getting there Friday to snag the MM campspot which is beside the showers and toilets. Bring whatever you need for yourself.

Food: we will miss the awards dinner party for karting but the tavern is serving food after the awards party, we will probably head straight there once karting ends to make sure we can order before they stop serving dinner. This is also a great time to hang/meet/talk and get to know some aluMMni. Alum take note and let's all gather there!

Rides: please post here if you need a ride or simply would like to ride down with folks. Personally I will be heading down at 12pm Saturday. Brandon is going down Friday. Post here and/or message me (Matthew Walker/Wames Jatkins) and also James Watkins for this lol. If you're driving and want to caravan with us, same deal, shoot us a message. Sunday departure time is completely open.

What else: lucky for you, you're not only karting or only going to Virginia International Raceway, YOU'RE DOING BOTH. Saturday may be a bit tight for rides but James and I will take you guys all around and introduce you to the facility and it'll probably be time for karting by then. Saturday night we load up on water, food and have fun with each other. Sunday, you get in some cars for fun laps around Vir and spectate the full 40 mins races. Expect to be woken by raging 6 cylinders and v8's as your alarm clock on Sunday morning. So far, it's the most pleasant alarm system I've come across.

Teams to the best of my knowledge:
Myself/Ryan H/Jake L
James/Jackson/plaugs/tom
Ryan G/erectyler/friend/friend
Charles/jack/friend

Note: I'm really glad this many of you are coming down. Karting at Vir and then going for rides Sunday is about the best second hand high you're gonna get from the gofastcrackpipe. Its 100% worth it and y'all are gonna be hooked after this weekend!

^^ Great post Matt and thanks for helping put this together!

I'm sure Jonathan and I will make it up to the Tavern on Saturday night - we will also be doing dinner there Friday night if Brandon/others want to join us at like... 7:30 or so. Guessing Justin, Casey, Tom, Ryan may join as well.

Both points races are on Saturday as this is the last points event of the season and championship trophies will be given out at the party Saturday night. So - the Sunday race is a 40 minute "fun race" for all racers regardless of class, and I will have most of the day free to give rides. My plan is to bring my street tires and just beat on them relentlessly all day Sunday. Gotta save the BFG's for Championships in a few weeks.

Can't wait for this trip!

My friend and I will be needing a ride down there on Saturday. If anyone is able to help with that, I would be very appreciative.

In for food Friday or I'll starve otherwise. I'll be meeting up with Jake again and try to keep up with his crazy towing.

Yeah we will have to run to the tavern for food on Saturday. They vary on when they close for food depending on # of people there. We will need to order asap.

Looking forward to karting with students. Begging Felton on FB to make sure it happens can work at times.... lol. We should try to do this more often.

Towing at 65-70 is not crazy!  Angel

Pfft, you towed with UHaul trailers which were generally last maintained during the Reagan administration.

I have new tires/brakes/bearings and nothing is overloaded. It's fine at those speeds.

Great event, glad everyone who came seemed to have a good time with karting, ride alongs, and meeting some cool people at the track! Remember if you want, talk to Laura about working future events to build up credits if you are interested in racing your own car in the future, or just love being around race cars all day! Also congrats Zach on the Worker of the Year award!

Good job driving in your Hyperdrive and thank you for listening, it makes any instructor's job easier. #1 thing to work on for next time is compressing your braking zones so you brake harder for shorter distance.

F30Post (vBullitein) you can, so I didn't know if you could also on this platform. Makes it easy to call people into a conversation without texting them and saying, hey go check this thread out that I just mentioned you in.
