Is this appropriate for me to post in the Lounge?

Ethical question here:

I've got a budget goal to turn my Miata from a cheap rusty street car into a cheap rusty track car. My goal is have it ready for the beginning of next season, but saving enough to have it in a state like Jake's (with pretty much everything but seats/harnesses) is going to be pretty tough.

So I've been looking hard for work on the side, specifically web work, but I've used up all of my possible leads and connections and my responses to CL ads are going unanswered (big surprise). I was thinking of making a thread in the Lounge to ask if anyone had any dads, moms, uncles, co-workers etc that run a small business, or for some reason have a website they need redesigned. However, I'm concerned that it would come off as self-promotion or advertising and make some people unhappy.

I feel like I'd just be making a post to hopefully take advantage of some connections, and, if it worked out, somebody would get a website for a pretty awesome price, and I could finance my race car fetish. Its not like I would be repeatedly posting advertisements or doing anything else that would hinder or clutter the forums.

However, I can also see the flipside of the coin, where I'm taking advantage of the club's discussion forum for my own personal financial benefit. So I decided to take it here, thoughts, kosher, not kosher?

Id say Kosher, if you put it in the FS/WTB forum. Cause technically you are advertising something FS, just happens to be your service.

Yeah, that's a good call. I think I'll give this some time just in case anyone really opposes, and then write up a little thread to put in there. Thanks for the advice :-)

Well I think youll be fine. I think the general consensus is, if you work for XYZ we dont want you putting up threads and shit saying buy your widgets from us. But your promoting your own company/services/products, like G, Scotty, Dan have. Should be perfectly fine, but I will let others weigh in as well.

Move it to the FS/WTB. This exact post is asking exactly for what your selling. I dont mind it at all, but just put it in the FS/WTB. I dont think it will become a problem till we start pushing through the first page of WTB/FS a day when obviously it should be more focused on the club.

i think its completely reasonable - just as others said, place what you posted here in the FS section. otherwise just use discretion about what lengths you go to in order to promote yourself on the forum (i.e. don't be blatant, consider context, etc), i think you'd be a great resource for people. many of us here help each other out due to current and past MM connections.

I'm cool with it unless everyone joins the bandwagon and starts posting on there. You've served your time for MM. I really doubt this will become an issue though.
