Hey everyone!
So I thought it was finally time to make an event page for this drift event coming up. Myself, with a close group of friends/drift buds are putting this event on. Hoping to get tons of people out and make it a fun experience for spectators as well as drivers.
The track is about 25 min from JMU, located right near Massanutten.

Drifting is always a blast to watch, current students should definitely go see. Sidenote, but that track with the paved infield looks awesome! I never made it over there to see it for myself - why aren't there any a/x's held there!?!
Planning on being there and hopefully getting some of the freshman who I talked to out there. Got a pretty legit group. I'm planning to go practice my photo skills this event.

Im still serious about talking to this track owner about doing an autocross-- Jon, from the experience that you had with him in setting up this drift event, how feasible do you think it would be to do an autocross there?

I talked to Jon about it, may be feasible but also may be very expensive plus we would have to get cones and equipment from either NASA or SCCA. It sounds like a great idea, but the logistics may kill it.
Would need at least 75 to 85 drivers depending on what you set the cost at to get the track and that would be if someone hooked us up on equipment for free.
Once again, sorry to be buzz killington. It might be worth a shot though.

I still think its worth a shot to do an MM autocross extravaganza. I know I would be down for a big donation to try to help make this happen. Jon, could you post up some details on what it would take to get an event going?

Haha... no categories per-say technically, so if you'd like to spend the cash to attempt it, you're welcome to jump in haha. Of course, need a 6 point roll cage with single door bar or better in order to compete in tandem group.

Well, the big downside at the moment is the cost. What a great track though! But ya, we are spending $3000 for track rental/insurance/emt's/ambulance when it's all said and done. They weren't willing to do a split (like 60/40) as they have done with other events. There's a chance you could speak with them about doing something like that instead, which saves so much in the end, leaving little room for profit (wish they would agree to that for us! We are just trying to cover costs on this event! Only chance of the event caving will be if we don't get enough drivers to sign up)

Please send me the financials and all details. Maybe I can help us figure out how to do this and if its feasible.

I'll message you the contact info for the track owner's daughter Stacy who manages scheduling and all that. If a reputable group is involved, they might do a split for you all.
Get SCCA/NASA to run the event and bring cones and use SCCA/NASA insurance and classing. That's a bunch of the problems solved.

But then its just another event, I think david wants it as a staple that MM hosted their own autocross. I may be wrong though

Id prefer to have it at least happen to not have it at all.
We "could" do it as a test and tune and provide our own that way people could do like a million runs, but then the cost would skyrocket to around ~100 bucks a person.

II'd say use NASA's resources so that you have a higher chance of it going smoothly and being successful. If you are going to have an autocross you're gonna need to get all of the cones and timing equipment. We don't currently own that stuff so we'd have to buy all of it, then find a place to store it. On top of that, I don't know how insurance and liability would work out but maybe that's not a problem.
My recommendation would be to have NASA or SCCA help us run the event the first time. After that we can decide if it's something worth investing in putting on by ourselves. At $3000 for everything I don't think it's an event we could make that much money on. Unless we made money on donations and/or concessions.
