Hey guys,
So thanks to that car future thread it motivated me to look around and I am now just paperwork and waiting on mitsubishi away from securing a black 2011 Evo X GSR. Barring any unforseen circumstances that is.
Anyway my situation is as follows. As much as i don't want to i have no choice but to sell the RA with the black Enkeis on it. i have the stock wheels with Blizzacks on them in the garage, specs as follows:
18x7 (215s on them)
+46 offset
The evo comes with the following:
18x8.5 Enkeis
+38 offset
Yokohama last you 2k mile summer tires
Clearly i don't want to be driving around in North East winter with the Yokohamas. I also don't want to spend 700ish on tires that fit the stock Evo wheels. So i figured i will just use the stock RA wheels on the Evo. I figure they won't clear the rotors on the Evo so it leads me to spacers. I guess i'm just looking for a general how it works, i asked on EvoM and no one there has done this and they mentioned cutting and longer bolts and i figured it'd be easier just to talk with you guys who may (?) have more patience with me as newb.

well i'm sure it will clear the rotor... its probably the CALIPER you need to worry about.
I dont know how tight the clearances are for the caliper but you are only talking 8mm... but that might be enough to make or break you. If i were you i'd keep whatever have the blizzacks on them and just test fit them when you get the car. then order your spacers if you need them. just jack up one side (be safe about it) and pull both front and rears... test fit and go.

Most likely a 8-10mm spacer may need new bolts, so figure bolts into your equation as well. How do you figure they wont clear the rotors/calipers? Guess or just wait till you get the Evo and test-fit before buying things.

Yeah, i figured i'd try once i had it but I just wanted an idea as to the general concept.
By looking at the stock configuration it seems that there isn't much room between spokes and calipers, so i assume that 8MM might make all the difference.
Are there different kinds of spacers?

lugcentric and hubcentric. They absolutely need to be hubcentric unless they are 5mm or less. Remember, wheels weight and grip should all be ono the hub, the studs/nuts just keep it from coming off the hub.

I would wait until you get 'er and throw the Ralliart wheel on there. It probably will hit the caliper though. What you want is a good hubcentric spacer, but to be honest I don't think I've ever seen a non-hubcentric spacer, or really know what they are. They are usually sold in different like 5, 10, 15, 20mm widths, although I've seen them in all kinds of weird sizes. If you're trying to make up 8mm in offset, I would go with a 10mm spacer and a set of extended lugs, it'll probably run you $150 or so.
EDIT: ah-hah! What he said:

ahh thanks guys, getting a little clearer picture on how this works.
I asked in EvoM and received this response:
"if you have your RA wheels you could spend a few hundred dollars getting extended studs and spacers. plus the install if you're not doing it yourself. which is actually very simple in the front. the rears are a bit tougher and require you to remove the hub from the car. "
Any idea on what he could mean by that on the rears?

Evos (as do most Japanese vehicles) have press fit studs. Up front its typically pretty easy to get them out while still on the car. In the rear typically means you wont have space to remove them unless you remove the hub.

Oh okay. Not entirely clear on that, but i'm sure it's something i'll understand better once I see it in person.

I think its still something you could tackle at home, it would just be a good project and you'll probably have to buy a big ass socket like DJ did.
One thing I just thought of, if you have to install extended studs, you'll have to make sure you get lug nuts that will tighten all the way down when you're using the Evo wheels without the spacers. Either like a deeper capped nut, or maybe ones with no caps so you can tighten them all the way down without worrying about it, I think DJ has a set of those for his monstar studs.

its going to be $100 for studs plus shipping... and unless you can find steel stock open ended lugs, they get pricey too...

Get ready to pay the EVO/STi tax on everything you want to buy for this thing.
Just saw a pack of ARP wheel studs for this thing, $110 on EBAY!!!! why is it the same length/diameter/thread pitch as the Honda ARP studs yet way more expensive, Honda ARP studs, $16 for 4, $22 for 5. Must be made out of unobatnium.
Damn. I wish they made 18in steelies.
EDIT:
Wait so if they're the same spec, shouldn't they work?

Yeah its going to be a pain, probably less of a pain than getting another set of winters though.
So when are you bringing this thing home? Take the afternoon off and go take a picture of it. Now. She needs you to visit her anyway, start getting her used to your touch ;-).

Yes, dunno why you'd wanna do that though.
sorry, i meant if the studs are the same spec, wouldn't they work?
Joey, i have seller's pics. I'm an idiot and didn't take any when i went to see it. Rookie move.

the only difference between your bolts and the ones for the honda, are the knurl sizes. Knurl being the size of the widened portion of the wheel stud, that is pressed into the hub. However a slightly larger knurl on your car doesnt justify an increase of $1 per stud.
Great.
Oh well. Guess i'll just wait and see once i get the car if this is something that i can pull off. Otherwise i'll buy the parts do what i can and pay a shop to do the stuff i can't do.

Found this website when I was looking for open ended lug nuts. They have a bunch of applications and are really cheap. http://www.race-studs.com/servlet/the-60%C2%B0-Cone-Nuts/Categories I have a set for my accord that I probably won't even be using but they seem to be pretty high quality for the price. Keep in mind the 60 degree cone sets are designed for "tuner" wheels and should not be used on stock wheels.
