So, to address the idea of doing the Tail of the Dragon, we have here this poll thread. I know a lot of you have mentioned wanting to do this event, and with this we'll leave it up to you to commit to it, or not (or, alternatively, say yes to the other option). If we did Tail of the Dragon it would take committing to above and beyond any other event that we've held, because it is quite a distance from us, so please keep that in mind if you select the TOD option. Selecting it would be the same as entering your name in a registration option. It would be huge fun for the club and, if all goes well, I could see it being one of the best events yet, but the flip-side is it would be a letdown if everyone bailed at the last minute. I'm not trying to be a skeptic, but you have to understand from a planning perspective, its a thin line between a good event and a disaster and it relies mostly upon the participation and commitment of members. I'd love to do it and do it well, with everyone involved (student+alumni) and everyone glad they participated.
Here are the two rough options we've come up with, and based on the poll results we'll go with the most popular. The weekend of April 25th to the 26th is truthfully the only weekend we have available for this (we being students) according to our schedule of events, the JMU schedule of events, and the general desire to do this at a time when the weather is nice. This would be one week after the planned G-Force karting trip.
Option 1: Tail of the Dragon
See earlier thread here
This would entail traveling down the Friday before the weekend, most likely down I-81 to Abingdon, for a few reasons. Ryan T has offered to open the doors of his home to a reasonable number of us (6-7); there are also other local lodging options available. Stopping Friday would allow is to wake up Saturday, do the TOD, return for Saturday night, and head home Sunday morning.

GoogleMaps puts the trip to Abingdon at about 3.5 hours, and to the TOD (Deals Gap, NC US 129) at roughly 3 hours (doable in ~2.5 I'm told)
Option 2: Scenic Cruise to Charlottesville
This would be an event similar to the Skyline Drive cruise of last fall, whereby current students could take the southern end of the Skyline Drive to an east-bound country road into Charlottesville, or a number of other possible routes. Similarly, those from N.Va could choose a scenic route to their liking to head to C'ville (OR join us in H'burg for our route), in which we would meet up at a park, restaurant, or home (?) for a MM cookout and get-together. This is obviously simpler and closer to most, and depending on the roads found, could be a sort of TOD "lite".

Pick which one you'd like and we'll go from there 8)
