NHRA Driver, Scott Kalitta Killed in Crash...

2 time NHRA Top fuel Champion. Came back from retirement in 2003 to race Funny Cars. Died in the 4th round of qualifying today in Englishtown. I know none of you guys prob care about NHRA, but my dad and i watch and keep up with it. He died "Due to injuries from the crash". The crash was pretty horriffic, car exploded then flew through the sandtrap and over the barriers, and remember these cars go 300+ mph.

Wow that was a horrific accident. Racing cars like that has to be the biggest rush in the world...at least he went out doing something he loved instead of rotting away in a home remembering when he used to travel down the track at 300+mph. RIP

do they usually have large sand traps at the ends or is it typically asphalt --> wall?

always sandtrap then wall, atleast at all the NHRA certified tracks that ive attended.

Truly sad...

They were a racing family with I think 3 cars at this race not to mention dad who is nearly a legendary figure in the sport.

I just happen to catch the beginning of Sunday evening telecast and the first couple runs were singles because of missing Kalitta Motorsports entries.
