Corner balancing

Anyone know someone with scales? I will be in need of corner balancing the MR2 soon and paying Curry's 400 bucks to do it is a touch too much.

Wow. Is that with a discount or regular price? Are they still in ManAsses? Their website only list gasoline alley now.

just gasoline alley.

I dont think that was a discount price but it could have been since WWR has a good relationship with him.
Either way, I dont think he would charge over $150 for just a corner balance but only one way to find out.

Yep. Emailed him. 250 would be outrageiously good. I mentioned you. That could hurt or help. We'll see. Big Grin Thanks.

Dumb question: What the hell is corner balancing?

it means equalizing the cars cross-weights to be perfectly 50/50. you do this by adjusting the spring perches. This makes sure your car handles the same in right and left hand corners (all else being equal)

in nascar terms, adding or subtracting wedge is purposefully changing the corner balance of the car to make it handle better in one direction or the other.

Rock on. Thats what I thought, just different terminology.

As far as circle track stuff goes, we just call it scaling the car, I guess because its not exactly a balance Front/Rear and L/R.

Thanks for the explanation.

BTW, its a total pain in the dick to do on a Sprint Cup car, keeping in mind the quarter panel heights, tire pressures, crossweight, and roof heights all have to be within specs.

I envy anyone who has to do that type of work on a pro race team.

And dirt track stuff, I have no idea how to go about any of that.

That'd be a good way to earn some extra money if you had the time and money to buy a set of scales and learn to do the job quick enough though.

I don't have enough camo hats to get them to do that.

I can talk to the lead tech at work, he has a set of scales at his house, and if you were willing to throw in a little money (or possibly case of beer), and you didn't mind a trip to winchester on a weeknight, he might be willing to let you use them.

He's also a Toyota genius, and has a lot of experience with racecars.

I don't mind the drive up to Winchester cause RP performance is at Summit but I don't know enough about this stuff to do it the first time on my own. It would be interesting to try it out though. I wonder if the Cobettos would loan the worker of the year club their scales for a weekend?

If you do this yourself, make sure to place enough weights in the driver's seat to equal your weight.

That was a WWR discount that Evan got, forget about mentioning his name, mention mine and bring a bottle of vodka, he may do it for $50.

Also disconnect the swaybars and set tire pressures.

"Bret, Alan said you'd do anything for 50 bucks and bottle of vodka?" That could come off wrong.
