Corner balancing - Andy - 04-22-2008 Anyone know someone with scales? I will be in need of corner balancing the MR2 soon and paying Curry's 400 bucks to do it is a touch too much. - Evan - 04-22-2008 Bret at RP charged me $250 to install new tophats, align, and cornerbalance my pile. tell him Evan referred you - Andy - 04-22-2008 Evan Wrote:Bret at RP charged me $250 to install new tophats, align, and cornerbalance my pile. Wow. Is that with a discount or regular price? Are they still in ManAsses? Their website only list gasoline alley now. - Evan - 04-22-2008 just gasoline alley. I dont think that was a discount price but it could have been since WWR has a good relationship with him. Either way, I dont think he would charge over $150 for just a corner balance but only one way to find out. - Andy - 04-22-2008 Yep. Emailed him. 250 would be outrageiously good. I mentioned you. That could hurt or help. We'll see. Thanks.
- NTIman - 04-22-2008 Dumb question: What the hell is corner balancing? - Evan - 04-22-2008 it means equalizing the cars cross-weights to be perfectly 50/50. you do this by adjusting the spring perches. This makes sure your car handles the same in right and left hand corners (all else being equal) http://www.dietersmotorsports.com/tech/ ... alance.htm in nascar terms, adding or subtracting wedge is purposefully changing the corner balance of the car to make it handle better in one direction or the other. - NTIman - 04-22-2008 Rock on. Thats what I thought, just different terminology. As far as circle track stuff goes, we just call it scaling the car, I guess because its not exactly a balance Front/Rear and L/R. Thanks for the explanation. - NTIman - 04-22-2008 BTW, its a total pain in the dick to do on a Sprint Cup car, keeping in mind the quarter panel heights, tire pressures, crossweight, and roof heights all have to be within specs. I envy anyone who has to do that type of work on a pro race team. And dirt track stuff, I have no idea how to go about any of that. That'd be a good way to earn some extra money if you had the time and money to buy a set of scales and learn to do the job quick enough though. - Maengelito - 04-22-2008 just yell at rex and kaan at the next event and have them push you up on scales. then adjust accordingly - Andy - 04-22-2008 Maengelito Wrote:just yell at rex and kaan at the next event and have them push you up on scales. then adjust accordingly I don't have enough camo hats to get them to do that. - NTIman - 04-22-2008 I can talk to the lead tech at work, he has a set of scales at his house, and if you were willing to throw in a little money (or possibly case of beer), and you didn't mind a trip to winchester on a weeknight, he might be willing to let you use them. He's also a Toyota genius, and has a lot of experience with racecars. - Andy - 04-22-2008 NTIman Wrote:I can talk to the lead tech at work, he has a set of scales at his house, and if you were willing to throw in a little money (or possibly case of beer), and you didn't mind a trip to winchester on a weeknight, he might be willing to let you use them. I don't mind the drive up to Winchester cause RP performance is at Summit but I don't know enough about this stuff to do it the first time on my own. It would be interesting to try it out though. I wonder if the Cobettos would loan the worker of the year club their scales for a weekend? - white_2kgt - 04-22-2008 Andy Wrote:NTIman Wrote:I can talk to the lead tech at work, he has a set of scales at his house, and if you were willing to throw in a little money (or possibly case of beer), and you didn't mind a trip to winchester on a weeknight, he might be willing to let you use them. probably not since we almost destroyed them one weekend... - Andy - 04-22-2008 Maybe we're on their good side again? :dunno: - Ole - 04-22-2008 If you do this yourself, make sure to place enough weights in the driver's seat to equal your weight. That was a WWR discount that Evan got, forget about mentioning his name, mention mine and bring a bottle of vodka, he may do it for $50. - .RJ - 04-22-2008 Ole Wrote:If you do this yourself, make sure to place enough weights in the driver's seat to equal your weight. Also disconnect the swaybars and set tire pressures. - Jewels - 04-23-2008 Edit: Nothing to see here. - Ole - 04-23-2008 Evan Wrote:Bret at RP charged me $250 to install new tophats, align, and cornerbalance my pile. You put 99 hats on your car???? - Andy - 04-23-2008 Ole Wrote:That was a WWR discount that Evan got, forget about mentioning his name, mention mine and bring a bottle of vodka, he may do it for $50. "Bret, Alan said you'd do anything for 50 bucks and bottle of vodka?" That could come off wrong. |
