Vortex Generators...do they work?

While I don't want to start the next "plane on a treadmill" debate, I'm curious if you guys have any thoughts on these aftermarket vortex generators.

I'm a little intrigued after reading the article in this month's SCC, and after checking out the website (<!-- w --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.airtab.com">www.airtab.com</a><!-- w -->) it seems like there's actually some merit to sticking what looks like satellite radio antennas on your car.

I know the Evo's have had them on a few models, but is there any real performance/economy gains to be had from these?

The testimonial section is pretty funny, even though the manufacturer claims that it's useless to place the vortex generators closer than 4" together, this Corvette owner felt otherwise.

that corvette is downright shameful.

i recall reading that the generator on the evo do actually offer some benefit, but it is minimal at best. adding aftermarket versions is probably worthless as i'm sure most cars have very different aero behavior and positioning them is probably a sensitive thing best left to real engineers.

They are useless on the corvette. Why they work on the evo is the slope of the rear windshield.. So no, I dont plan on putting one on my eclipse and goddamn, dont put one on a corvette.
