So i had my first fall last night.
On my way to Silver Spring to drop off a few things for a friend i pull onto Washington Blvd from Pershing Dr. As i make the right turn at the intersection i notice that there is a line of stopped cars in the right lane so i move to the left lane and continue. I wasn't really sure why they were stopped so i pass them cautiously anticipating a sudden movement into my lane from a stopped car because it happens a lot with little or no signalling. It appeared fine and as i was passing the cars a dog walks into my lane from in front of the first stopped car. SHIT.
I'm going about 30 mph at this point and i grab a handfull of brake and i make like a stunter and pull my first stoppie. I'm near vertical at this point and i collide with the dog (maybe at 10 or 5mph or something) - i remember everything. As i hit the dog it throws off my balance even more and the bike leans forward and over to the right side and i disembark from the bike, landing on my hands and slamming down on my right side, ankle first and barrel-roll using my back. The way i fell actually saved my helmet as i checked it up and down, but no scratches or marks of the sort. The gloves, boots, and knee guards did their job nicely and i was very thankful i was wearing them. The motorcycle lands on the right side of the upper fairing and the rest of the right side. I make my way over to the median and sit there as bystanders help me out - a little shaken up at this point. A couple people move my bike to the sidewalk and the ambulence and police show up.
After being released with minor injuries (ankle impact and left wrist pains) i walk my bike home. It still starts up, but steering is restricted in both directions. I have yet to assess the damages on the bike, but i called insurance and fortunately this is covered under comprehensive coverage.
The dog ran away, and i think it was alright.
The only shot i have at the moment:

the bike landed where the the right mirror should be and there is some hidden damage under the upper fairing that i'll need to examine further. a bystander told me the bike was leaking fluids, but i didn't have time to check
