Jay goes down - Sijray21 - 10-22-2007

So i had my first fall last night.

On my way to Silver Spring to drop off a few things for a friend i pull onto Washington Blvd from Pershing Dr. As i make the right turn at the intersection i notice that there is a line of stopped cars in the right lane so i move to the left lane and continue. I wasn't really sure why they were stopped so i pass them cautiously anticipating a sudden movement into my lane from a stopped car because it happens a lot with little or no signalling. It appeared fine and as i was passing the cars a dog walks into my lane from in front of the first stopped car. SHIT.

I'm going about 30 mph at this point and i grab a handfull of brake and i make like a stunter and pull my first stoppie. I'm near vertical at this point and i collide with the dog (maybe at 10 or 5mph or something) - i remember everything. As i hit the dog it throws off my balance even more and the bike leans forward and over to the right side and i disembark from the bike, landing on my hands and slamming down on my right side, ankle first and barrel-roll using my back. The way i fell actually saved my helmet as i checked it up and down, but no scratches or marks of the sort. The gloves, boots, and knee guards did their job nicely and i was very thankful i was wearing them. The motorcycle lands on the right side of the upper fairing and the rest of the right side. I make my way over to the median and sit there as bystanders help me out - a little shaken up at this point. A couple people move my bike to the sidewalk and the ambulence and police show up.

After being released with minor injuries (ankle impact and left wrist pains) i walk my bike home. It still starts up, but steering is restricted in both directions. I have yet to assess the damages on the bike, but i called insurance and fortunately this is covered under comprehensive coverage.

The dog ran away, and i think it was alright.

The only shot i have at the moment:

the bike landed where the the right mirror should be and there is some hidden damage under the upper fairing that i'll need to examine further. a bystander told me the bike was leaking fluids, but i didn't have time to check Sad

Damn Sad

Glad you are ok - not much else you could've done, you still hit the dog.

Gold wheels goes well with white and red...

- Ginger - 10-22-2007

Sorry, Jay. Let me know if you need a hand fixing it up

- Apoc - 10-22-2007

Yay insurnace. You make me so proud Jay.

You should have throttled that shit and cut the dog in half!

- Maengelito - 10-22-2007

glad to hear you're okay jay. come on back to the 4 wheel group

- PDenbigh - 10-22-2007

Glad you're ok man. Sounds like you gave a valiant effort.

- Kaan - 10-22-2007

glad you are ok Jason. screw the 4 wheel crew... you are fine!

- Dragon - 10-22-2007

Damn dude, glad to hear you're ok and the insurance is gonna take care of it. Let me know if you need any help with repairs.

- PDenbigh - 10-22-2007

A suggestion on the insurance - you can often actually get them to pay you the labor if you do the repairs yourself. When I fixed my bike Progressive paid for all of the parts. I put them on, got it "ok'd" by the Honda shop for a $50 fee, and then progressive sent me a check for what Blue Ridge Powersports told them the labor would cost. Pretty sweet deal in the end.

- Apoc - 10-22-2007

Depending on insurance, you can also get an estimate for the total cost of repair and ask they cut you a check. Some companies prefer to send it to the shop to prevent people from just pocketing the cash but it doesn't hurt to ask. Given the availability of resources, it's likely you could fix it for a lot cheaper than a shop would quote you. Whatever you don't spend on parts goes in your pocket (to pay your premiums :? ).

- Mike - 10-22-2007

booo. welcome to the club... glad you're ok.

- WRXtranceformed - 10-22-2007

Hey I'm glad you're okay dude! At least it was a low speed crash.

- G.Irish - 10-22-2007

Welp, glad you were wearing your gear and didn't get hurt. That's just one of those gotchas that is really hard to avoid no matter what you do.

At least you won't be missing prime riding weather and will have all winter to fix the bike

- .paul - 10-23-2007

why you kick my dog.

glad you are okay, it was bound to happen right? Tongue let me know if you need any help wrenching Smile

- SameeRR - 10-23-2007

First of all, it wasn't a dog. It was Jay's girlfriend.

Secondly, Jay, I owe a lot of me still riding to you, so anything you need let me know.

- Chris - 10-23-2007

glad your gear did its job man, I wish more people wore what you do. Hope your injuries heal quickly... and like Sameer said, let me know if I can help at all.

- Feersty - 10-24-2007

Damn Jay, sucks man. Glad the severity was minimal.
