The RJ bought a new camera thread
#1
Canon Rebel XT. Pics below taken with the kit lens, but I've already bought a Sigma 70-300mm lens, and probably pick up a Sigma 17-70mm lens later this month. (I dont intend for this to be a debate for canon vs. not-canon glass, so dont start one in this thread).

Critique, prawpz, etc.... plenty more to follow over the next few months.

First, resize your fucking pictures!

3 & 7 seem out of focus. I'm guessing the camera focused on something other than the bike.

Did you auto-level these? Looks like you did, probably something you wouldn't have to do if you had a UV filter. It made the details darker than they should be. (i.e. engine) A fill flash could fix that but you'd probably get a reflection off the tank or something.

The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth

I'll resize your fucking head!

I tried to auto-level, but it made the picture look really washed out - just auto-contrast in photoshop.

You probably shot in some of the worst light possible... hot and somewhat humid. UV filter sucka!

I guess... maybe it's the contrast that's makes it seem that way.

yar the 2nd bike pic is fuzzy.

go for simpler, less busy backgrounds. and/or open up the aperture to blur the background and make your subject pop out

Nice buy RJ. Nothing wrong with Sigma glass... I have definitely enjoyed mine. Not necessarily as sharp as some of the "L" Canon glass but for the price they are great. Will enjoy watching the progress. This reminds me I need to start shooting again... its been a while. Sad

They're really an absolute must, if for nothing else than protecting the glass on your lens. It's a lot easier to replace a $20 filter than a $300 lens.

FWIW, I travel with a minitripod and use it a lot.

Slighty OT:

Anyone interested in buying my Lowepro Micro Trekker 100? I picked up something different and probably don't need this one. It's pretty much like new and will sell for $30.

when making reflection shots, make sure you're not in the reflection... otherwise, good buy and nothing wrong with sigma lenses.
