Looks pretty sweet imo. They're supposedly going to have an extra performance package that will bump it to 675/650. Too bad its probably only going to run 11s :? An engine that big is going to make the car so heavy. Shit, the 2000 Hennessey Viper ran 10.7 with 800 base horsepower...stock C6 Z06s are getting very close to that with just drag radials.
I personally don't think this car will compete at all on the same level as the new Blue Devil S/C vette that's coming out, and it will probably cost a lot more. It is definitely a step up from previous gen Vipers though.

whats funny is that you even replied to that thread
I hope those numbers are being underrated by Dodge, because even 600hp and 560 lb-ft is appaling from 8.4 liters. Hell, the 2001 Apex Lethal 750 Viper from the C&D Supercar Challenge had 750hp and 800 lb-ft from a naturally aspirated 9 liter stroker. .6 more liters, and 150 more horsepower/240 more pounds of torque

GM just has the lockdown on the muscle car engines. They've always done more with less, and their motors are always notoriously underrated. The Blue Devil will be truly exciting. I mean, if stock Z06s are running high 10s and can handle with the best cars in the world, what is a factory supercharged one going to be capable of??

It probably makes more horsepower than that out of the box, as is Dodge's custom with the Viper.

You're probably right, I remember an old Motor Trend test from 2000 I believe where they dynoe'd a "450hp" stock RT/10 Viper and it made 425 to the wheels...of course it depends on the dyno but obviously underrated. Why though? In the Detroit dick swinging horsepower wars, isn't more power more better, if you advertise it?

If you've got the most horsepower this year, and don't have to do anything to make more horsepower next year but change the numbers on the magazine ad, why not?

EPA certification is expensive, from what I understand. Change the HP ratings on the engine, gotta go through it again.

Vipers do reasonably well on a road course, but it takes a really special or really experienced driver to do well with them. With all that weight in the front from the engine, it's like fucking powder skiing with a car. Those things kick out the ass-end so easily even under good road conditions.

sorry to bust it out but a quick google search on an 06 GTS is looking like 49.4/50.6% F/R distribution. its almost a front/mid engine setup. then again you know just about every weird factoid about any car made in the last 2 decades to the point that i feel like i'm about to get pwned
there's no denying the talent required to get the max out of this car on a track though....hell even on the street they live up to the rep of a modern cobra. i think there are more pictures of wrecked vipers floating around than any other low production supercar.
i can't help but love 'em though. ever since my dad scorched his calf on the sill of a neighbor's old RT/10 after driving it, i've been strangely hooked 8)

Eh no that could very well be true. It's just that pretty much every Viper owner or driver that I've talked to has said what I just said, even Jeremy Clarkson had a handful of a time getting the Viper around the track without sliding around. Maybe it's a problem with their suspension? I dunno, maybe one of the Dodge fanbois here knows.
I'd think with an even bigger, heavier engine in order to balance the car out you'd have to add even MORE weight to the rear, further hurting the impact that all that power is going to have on its acceleration.

oh yeah, no doubt. any video i've seen of journalists driving it looks like they're all over the place. i wonder if those massive tires are just really unprogressive.

Boring out an engine isn't going to add any weight. Adding the vvt might add a couple of pounds, but I'd say no more than 10.
I mean, for a pushrod V10, it's pretty high tech. All aluminum. Lamborghini re-engineered the prototype truck V10, making it aluminum with iron cylinder liners and a forged steel crank.
I...can't find any weight specs, but I doubt it weighs as much as you think it does. Add that to a long nose, and most of the weight is in the middle of the car.
