Tell me why I don't want an MG Midget

Free time at work means I look for ways to blow cash unnecessarily. When I do this I come up with half-brained ideas. Besides, for this amount of money... what could go wrong? Big Grin

"Here, at last, is the cure for texting while driving. The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth

That's tight! Are those reliable, or do they take a lot of maintenance to keep running? No point in throwing away money on something that you're constantly fixing.

Go for it!

My father in law had a Austin Healey and a V8 swapped MGB back in his day. He has a Miata now and says it all the fun of those cars except he's not under it every weekend. His Healey also caught on fire 2 times with him in it.

But I want one. Actually, I want a Triumph TR6.

i wanted one too, but british sports cars never run properly. they are known to be very unreliable despite how nice they are. all of this reminds me of that thread about eric not too long ago and how he had his fiat's transmission in his dorm room at rockingham

What I'd really love is a Super 7.

Why not build a Locost? It'd easily run you under 10 grand, and there's a bunch of plans for a 944 driveline to be utilized. (If that's something you'd be interested in, and I'm not saying it is.)

What is this "build" you speak of? Even were I not lazy I know enough that I'll likely never build a car when I can buy it for so much cheaper and less hassle.

Remember when I replaced the alternator in 100┬░ weather at VIR instead of eating lunch? That's some sort of miracle.

let me get this straight, you dont "get" why a miata is a good car, yet you want an old, busted, tiny british sports car older than you are?

Yeah that pretty much sums it up... although there's a distinct difference between a DD and recreational use.

On the bell curve that is car's age, anything +/- 2 sigma is where it's at. Ryan always buys busted chit right at the peak of old/busted. There's something to be said for cars old than I am.

Well considering this one is so cheap it's probably in really bad condition. I think I'd rather have an MGB like this -->http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...QrdZ1

The interior of that is pretty sweet. And even if the engine sucked, there looks like a decent amount of space in there for a swap. That would make a cool little hotrod! Looks pretty slow in stock form though... probably would be more of a cruiser.

Actually these cars don't go fast nor turn well. It's a common misperception that I, too, had once. For something so low on power and tiny, it's understandable that folks our age would assume it was a god of turns.
