I'm thinking about getting an iMac, but I want to play PC games on it. If it's not pretty darn compatable, then I'd like to know!

I have an intel iMac 17" and love it....there are some windows emulators you could probably use...hell some shops use them to run AEM EMS software on iBooks for tuning, I'm sure you can find something.

Well, the AEM software is a pretty basic application, a bit different from running a racing simulator within an OS emulator.

emulators are not for games. unless you can load winXP and boot directly into it, you have no chance of playing a game with remotely passable performance (even if DirectX/3D is even included in the emulation, which I doubt)

hmm... well I don't even know why emulators came up really. Windows runs natively on an Intel Mac. Their machines are some of the fastest PCs out there! From the LFS forums, I see a few people reporting great results, I just wanted to know if anyone had found any popular programs that had problems.

We have 2 Mac minis running bootcamp at my work. As far as I know there should be no game compatibility issues as Windows is not being emulated - it is running directly on top of the hardware just like it does on a PC.

Bootcamp is not an emulator though - it is basically a boot manager. Emulators create problems and huge performance losses. Windows can run on new Intel based Macs because they use the same hardware that any other X86 based PC does. In theory you should be able to run the newer versions of Mac OS-X on a PC if you wanted to (although I think it is BIOS blocked.)

Well, he hasn't said what he wants to run. VMWare would be cheap and easy. If he wants a PC Gaming Machine, that's what he's going to have to buy. If he wants a bandaid to play some lower end games, there are alternatives. (VMWare would be...acceptable.) I mean, I see no reason to buy a Mac. So...

Run XP natively

See it says NATIVELY not VIRTUAL (like VMWare is).

I know bootcamp is a great solution for this problem, but *my* problem is that it's just a dual boot system. Whoopdie do. Depending on what channing wanted to do, a virtualization scheme MIGHT WORK.

If you would read MY post, you would see where I said "vmware would be cheap and easy..." the easy part being key. No rebooting, no dual boot voodoo. Very flexible. Performance hit? Sure. But depending on what he wanted to run, that might not be a big deal.

I know what boot camp is. I know what VMWare is (I work with it every goddamn day) and I know what the difference between the two is. But when Channing said:

I decided to give him mine. I didn't realize there was a rule on this forum against offering possible alternatives. Notice I didn't say "If you want to play PC games, buy a PC." Instead, I gave a possibly viable alternative, and I don't really feel like you were justified in jumping my shit about it.
