Project '71 Big Block Monte Carlo

So...I'm effin crazzzyyyyy

Getting ready to go slap a 8.875" 12 bolt rear, and spindles on this and pull it to my house.

Stats: 1971 Monte Carlo Sport Coupe (Considered to have a 400, but actually 402ci)

Console Shift, Bucket seat interior. 4 speed automatic.

Stuff it needs:

Passenger Inner and Outer Fender on the front and rear
Driver Rear Fender, inner and outer
Transmission
Most of the interior
Hood, Trunk lid
Lots of time
Lots of money
Brakes
Complete Frame off polishing/priming/POR-15ing
Wheels (see pic)[/img]

That is definitely a step away from all the rest of the builds on this forum. Funny that you're going with another Monte Carlo. Based on the "needs" list, I hope it was cheap :-D

If the Challenger counts as an "MM Car" then it would be the first. I need to post some pictures of it on here. I will be hitting that car hardcore once the Daytona is done. Good looking GM junk guys! I love our 84 Chevy trash truck....only because of the 454 and the 4-speed. Anything 400ci or bigger is worth $1000. Smile

Started on it yet!! HAR! Shit, the car has been about 50% done for 4 years. We are just now hitting it again. Getting online right now to pick out my 4bbl carb, intake, and headers. Its a trusty 318 V8, bored .030+ w/ a hot cam. Just needs the rest of the bolt-on goodies.

Got the rear-end pulled from a donor car today, and put up under my car. All that's left to do is put the front spindles and drums on and it'll be rolling again...w00t. I have some better pictures I'll post of the car at some point.

Haha...I'm thinking triple black. If I dont do that, White paint, with perhaps a purple-ish or some other candy stripe down the side..sort of following the body lines. The rear seat is actually in great condition, and black, the door panels are decent and black, and I have a mint condition black dash already. Sounds liek I dont have much choice there.

Got the rearend completely in - front spindles on. Question to anyone that has dealt with spindles before: The bolts on the ball joints on the top and bottom - I cant seem to get them both on at the same time - they seem to short. It seems like there is some play in them - and they would compress enough for me get the bolts on and the retaining pins in. I can only seem to get one of them at a time, with the steering rod end attached too. TIA

Snap a pic of the spindles? You may need to use a jack to get everything attached.

I cant snap a pic at the moment...but I tried to put jack stands under the frame, then put the jack under the lower arm of the spindle control arm(think thats the right term) and jack up on it, thinking the spring was just keeping things tight, and it didnt budge - just jacked the whole car up. Sorry this is so big - but you can see the upper and lower ball joints - but they dont have the steering linkage connected

Are the bolts holding the arms to the chassis tight? If so, the bushings are probably binding up and not allowing you to move the arm in place - what you'll want to do is loosen those bolts, get the balljoints seated and bolted down, then load the suspension either with a jack, or lift it up and put the jack stands under the LCA's, and then torque the bolts to spec.

Hrmm, didnt think of that. I might have put them in a bind when I put the ball joints in. THey are round press-in type, so I jacked up the car, put the ball joins in the slots and let it down on a block of wood to let the weight of the car press them in - I guess that could have done it.
