YES OR NO.. to trade or not to trade????

THIS GUY WANTS TO PRETTY MUCH STRAIGHT UP TRADE

THE SC300

SC pic 1

SC pic 2

1993 sc300 5 SPEED (rare)
118k miles
2jz inline 6 only around 200-220hp
basically same damn car as a NA supra
kbb value (5-6k) could sell it for 7-8k

18x10 advan wheels all around
HKS coilovers
JIC exhaust
JIC tie bars
Fiber Images carbon hood
ATS 2 way LSD
Centerforce stage 3 clutch
Lightened flywheel
97 and up headlights, tailights, front lip

PROs
for about 5 years i have been in love with the look of sc's - 5 speed version is super cool- big, comfortable, pimpin, sexy, can still drift it without a problem. the 3 spoke advans actually look good on the car to me.

CONs
about 100hp less than the 240 and heavy as a MOFO. would stay how it is for a while.. cause I dont have money (yes i would love to boost it and would someday)

THE 240

240 pic 1

240 pic 2

240 pic 3 MORE BOOOST

1991 240 coupe
104k on body about 50k on motor
about 270-280 hp how it is now
kbb value (3k) could sell it for 7k (I have 10k into it right now)

15x7 0 offset pannasport looking wheels
JIC fully adjustable coilovers (camber plates, etcetc)
Tien tie rods
JDM sr20 motor swap
3 inch turbo back (no cat)
stage 3 clutch
lightened flywheel
cusco solid motor mounts
fmic kit
greddy bov
greddy boost controller (set at 12-15lbs)
greddy boost gauge
greddy oil temp gauge
hks turbo timer
tomie short shifter
greddy oil pan
kaaz 2 way LSD (waiting to go in)

PROs
fast as a mofo now (well.. fast enough) will be a drift monster once the diff is in. (totally set up to be a bad ass drift car) can make 350-360whp with about 1200 bucks.

CONs
rides ruff as hell (like track car ruff), very loud, solid motor mounts make it feel like the car is going to vibrate in half. pretty uncomfortable (deff cant take girls here out in it haha ) so damn low i cant clear speed bumps or get into most parking lots without scraping the bottom of the car off (coilovers are pretty much all the way up now). with the power and never owning a turbo car i know im going to get myself into trouble with it. also i feel like a ricer when im in it eventhough ive done all i can to not make it a ricer haha

The catch.. if it even is one. the car was wrecked at a drift event.. the whole pass. side was messed up. the car has new black fender and door. the rear quarter still needs to be fixed, then the whole side would need to be painted. to make up for this the guy said i can keep the new in box kaaz LSD (worth 900 bucks) and the wheels (worth 600 bucks) with that 1500 im thinking i could have the quarter fixed and the whole side painted so it will look like the pics above again

i know the guy and the car pretty well. im meeting with him friday so we can check out eachothers cars and work out some more details and junk. he originally called me to ask if i wanted to buy it cause he is moving overseas. i told him i just built the 240 and i like it. i sent him pics of it and he wondered if id be willing to trade. he would drive it till he left then give it to his brother (who doesnt want the sc and wants a sr 240)

so what do you all think??????? yes or no?

i know i have already shown some people...might as well get everyone opinion

I say no. Taking a big hit in power and getting a much heavier car.

I like the 240 A LOT more than I like that SC... your car is much more tasteful.

there are other SCs out there... your 240 isn't too common, is way faster, has a lot more time and money in it... i could go on. i think you'd be getting ripped off like whoa if you went with it.

ha, i thought the exact opposite. 240s are a dime a dozen, how many 5 speed SC's do you find, that aren't either gangsta pimped out or totally riced? but you're right, the 240, performance wise is so much better.

Blair, i think you already made the call but in my opinion, you are the kind of guy that likes something different. down the line, if you want to sell the SC, i think you know enough connections to make money off of it, especially with 5 spd. SC's getting rarer.

yea i agree with scotty.. 240's are becomming WHORES.. they are everywhere. sr 240 are going to be the new B series civic before you know it. on the other hand 5 speed sc are pretty rare. and this one is already nicely, tastefully modded. both cars would cost about the same to build (around 10K how they are now) if i were to do it all over again and i knew i was going to have 10k into the 240 i would have bought an SC.. they are just more money to get into one. and as some of you know I like to do everything to a car before i drive it.. and i could never pimp a stock SC haha

I think this would be the worst trade ever. The SC300 w/ a 5-speed is rare but not crazy rare. There are 20 of them on Autotrader right now for varying prices. The way I see it, you are trading a purpose built, non-wrecked drift 240 for a heavy, wrecked SC (with ugly ass wheels to boot.)

Don't complain about the 240 being a bitch to drive on the street - you built it to be that way. If you want it to be street drivable throw the stock suspension and engine mounts back on.

Oh, and if you do want to do an SC, wait till after the 3rd Fast and the Furious comes out mid summer (really, I'm not joking.) It will sell for 1000s over what you could get for it today once every 16 y/o comes out of the theatre going ÔÇ£OMG DRIFTORZ LOLZ ÔÇô I need an SR20 TURBO!! before racewarz!!!ÔÇØ

i know you've been sweating the SC's for a while, but i'm not so sure of this trade. I personally think your 240 is damn sexy, well built, and seems quite fun to drive. If you really want an SC i'd recommend looking for a different one and selling your 240. I think you can get good money with what you have into the car and how well you've taken care of it. I'm sure your reputation in the drift community and car community in general preceeds you in your sale, so i think you'll get whatever you ask for the car.

SC's are hot, rare, and sexy...but i don't think this is a fair trade, expecially if you have to go through the process of selling other items.

Tough choice though, i know the SC will be more comfortable - if that's what you're looking for.

there is pretty much no way id ever drive a car with stock suspension ( the benifits far outweigh the negatives for sure when it comes to the suspension.. the motor mounts on the other hand could go)

For the amount of money and work you put into your 240, trading straight up for this SC is probably not a good deal. You've got to deal with crash damage and because of that this car will already take a significant hit on its value if you decide to sell it in the future.

Also, if you've got $10k in the 240 you should at least enjoy it for awhile. If the car is only worth $7k this guy will end up getting $3k of your money and plenty of hours of your work for nothing. You'll never get that money or time back but you should at least enjoy it for awhile before you take that hit.

The only way I would trade for the SC is if it was significantly more enjoyable and fun to drive than the 240 but it doesn't sound like that would be the case right now

or if there were additional compensation involved. I'd ask for $1.5k on top of the trade if you really wanted it.

Agreed. Plus I don't like SCs. But I agree ignoring that fact.
