Intercooler Testing...
#1
I was wondering if any of you had any tools to test an intercooler with... like flow and temperature.

i just bought this ssautocrap intercooler kit for 240 shipped and i want to know if its worthy.. it looks exactly like the greddy kit for the mr2 except i like the piping design even better (they use less couplers and piping so its more direct)

thanks,
matt

look up on the mr2 forums. Which intercooler is it? Does it say XSPower or anything? DSMers have had an awesome time with XSpower intercoolers (only a certain kit), even a freaking thread that is 32-36 pages long and its only a month old.

I asked on the mr2 boards... people say that they are going to test it and yadda yadda yadda but nobody has gotten around to it yet.

I got the kit today and it looks nice.

and yes its an XS Power

ive heard horrible things bout SSautochromes tubular manifolds, but nothing bad bout their intercoolers, EBAY intercoolers are fine. Check out this linky

Wait, so it's an enormous intercooler, you've already bought it, you like the piping design.

Uhm...what difference does it make?

Honestly just pressure test it. If it passes than its probably big enough for any application under 400whp.

yea SSAC's tubular manifolds are complete ass.

their DPs are ok they just have fitment issues so its a hit or miss situation and you need to use a support bracket or they will crack.

that link you posted is interesting

I like the piping design because it has less bends and is more direct than the greddy's intercooler piping. Its not a HUGE intercooler since i drive a MR car so FMIC is not an option. I can only do a side mount or trunk mount... trunk mounts cost too much money for a poor college student like myself so the side mount was the only option..

its aboue 4.5 inches thick and about 18 inches long

i dont know how you can test an intercooler for all that.. you can pressure test it. cap off one end. cap off other end with an air comp. fitting and pressure it up (not to high) and listen for leaks. or have it underwater and look for bubbles... you can make it yourself with home depot parts for not to much. not a bad idea to preassure test the whole turbo system.. pretty much do the same thing.. not to hard.. listen for air leaks

mine is a SS autochrome XS POWER kit too. came HIGHLY recommended to me by a lot of people. said to be a lot better than the greddy kit for the 240. I like it.. even came with t bolt clamps. had to fab up my own bracket though.. but that wasnt to hard. no problems with it at all. love it
