$145 shipped. Only fits 10" subs, but supposedly sounds great. I like how it's flush mounted and lets me keep a lot of trunk space. I figured since this car came prewired with everything for a system in the back and I listen to mostly trance / techno I would consider it. I'd like to put 1 10" Alpine Type R into it, should bang really hard.
I used to have 1 Cervin Vega 10" sub in a truck box in my first ever vehicle, a Toyota pickup. It was so freaking loud in that cabin lol! BTW I still have that truck box if anyone wants it (still works but a little worn out).
Thoughts? I thought the flush mount was a pretty cool idea.

I have no idea about the sound quality of it.. but I know I have seen one in person and it looks pretty good. I like that it leaves plenty of room but still gets the job done. I say go for it... you can be the guinea pig as usual.
Just bought it ^_^ I'm so impulsive it's unbelievable heheh
That's a good call about the stuff rolling into it. Maybe I can find a grill that can cover the sub.
I'm looking at subs on Ebay right now. What's the difference between a 4 ohm Type R and a 2 ohm Type R? They're the same price. Any thoughts on a good amp to power either one ?

definitely go for it... i'm considering one too, but even losing a square foot of trunk space is huge for me.

I've got an eclipse amp back at the house. I'll have to look up the specs on it but I believe it would power a single sub with plenty of power. I was planning on throwing it up on ebay here soon. Just throwing it out there. I have no idea about the ohms.. eventhough I probably should. Congratulations on the quick buy... don't take much convincing do you?
Mike Wrote:definitely go for it... i'm considering one too, but even losing a square foot of trunk space is huge for me. Nice. I know someone makes a sub enclosure for the WRX / STI that mounts inside the spare wheel well in the middle of the trunk. When the sub is installed it is flush with the top of the trunk deck and is protected so you basically lose no trunk space. Do you have a spare tire well like that and could anyone make something like that for the S2k?
The Subaru one also lets you KEEP your spare tire in there, which is really huge.

I completely understand.
It'll be interestesting to hear what the quality of that box will be. I was thinking one of the Subarus at the car show last year had that enclosure and he said he really liked it.
i used to have 2x 10's in my STi which i dont think sounded that great but that might be because i didnt run too much power to them. i ended up trading with my bro for his 12" JL which sounds much better. i think that enclosure looks really slick and you can get any generic grill with screws and mounting hardware for like $10.
the ohm rating is just resistance. whichever amp you choose should be able to handle either the 2ohm or 4 ohm of the sub. just keep in mind RMS power will be rated at a certain resistance which may or may not be 2 or 4, but might be 6 or 8 or 1 ohm.

Cool. A friend of mine suggested getting the 2 ohm Type R with a refurbished Orion 600W amp ($115) or a 1200W am ($179). I don't particular want my brain to bang out of my head, so 600W sounds like it should work for me. If it ends up not being loud enough I can always upgrade the power source; that sub apparently can consistently be run at 2,000 watts even though that exceeds its peak (from what car audiophiles apparently say).

Just picked up 1 Dual 2 Ohm Hype Arrr and the Orion 600W amp. I'm long overdue for some oontz oontz! heheh
Edit: This site ( www.ikesound.com ) is actually pretty money. A friend of mine pointed me to it, they have some good deals overall, but really good deals on refurbed amps and such. Hell, a $1000 amp for $180 ain't bad ! hehe 8)

Ohm rating doenst really matter, you can always get that down by running more speakers in parallel. The thing is, you dont want to go to less ohms than your amp is rated for. My setup includes running two 8ohm 400W speakers, but my amp is rated for 4ohms, but running speakers in series like that cuts your ohm rating in half, then 1/4, 1/8....etc etc . Since you only have one speaker, you should make sure thats a 2 ohm amp

oh crap...one other note..10's are great for most sedans, and anything but the largest of vehicles. THe wavelength for a 10" sub is short enough that most of the sound stays inside the car, and bounces around and shit, which is what youwant, presuming you'll be listening to the system while you're int he car The reason you can always hear that jerk at the stoplights pounding isbecause he has too much sub for his small car, and the wavelengths are longer than the cabin of the car, so you dont hear most of the sound until its outside the car, where we can hear it sitting at the light..hope this helps

The box came in today! I'm very impressed with the build quality. It was obviously well thought out, only a test fit will tell how meticulously it was designed to fit. The Type R sub is here as well and I must say, just from the looks of it, subwoofers have come a long way since my old Cerwin Vega hehe.

Type-R is a good choice, I went with those for my components and 6x9s. Seeing as I already have 2 alpine type-e subs just laying around I think im just gonna make a fiberglass box where my rear seats are and make a removable setup.
I just tested out the box and sub combo today (10" Type R). Hooked it up to an Orion 1200W amp in my brother's friend's car. The thing fuckin BANGS hard ! I was really surprised, I didn't think it would be that loud. It's as loud if not louder than my brother's 2 12" Type S's, which are also very loud. Can't wait to get this OONTZ strapped down into the STI ^_^

Nick has a 12in Inifinity Kappa Perfect in the e30 and we got it tuned up this past weekend. Bumps like a bitch at half gain. The amp is only 300w at 2ohms but it hits one sub really really hard. I have the same sub but the 12.1 instead of the 12.1D (mine is single voice coil 4 ohm) and it hts like crazy shit w/ only 400 peak (2?? RMS) on it.
