So the miata had been a bit down on fuel mileage, with a CEL for a little while, with a bad o2 sensor listed as one of the triggers for the light. I figured, its got to be the o2 sensor, after I fixed an exhaust leak after the pre-cat (new gasket).
I get a new OEM sensor from Felton today, so I pull the old one off.... sho' nuff its a 'universal' type that you wire into the factory harness. Those things never work worth a shit.... but I was curious how this guy "wired" it in.....
Pics speak for themselves on this one:

you would hope so!
talk about a piece of work. I can't imagine what my boss would do if I wired a $60k home theater system like that!

Well, I agree, since most of my fixes involve zip ties and racer tape.... but sometimes, things need to be done right

bah, good enough for an O2 sensor, who needs those things anyway!
....Always a bit frustrating to pay extra for the factory replacement only to find that a PO has destroyed whatever connector was supposed to hook up to what you just bought. :x
Just so you guys can nod sagely at my misery...
that is, exactly, what the 1JZ harness looked like.
Twisted and taped.
Still gives me nightmares.

o2 sensors are a tiny bit more important than that
(09-25-2019, 03:18 PM)V1GiLaNtE Wrote: I think you need to see a mental health professional.
most of my quick fixes look like that
as long as it works..?
.RJ Wrote:o2 sensors are a tiny bit more important than that sure, but technically, there is nothing wrong with doing it that way, its still a good solid connection.
personally i solder stuff, but thats just for durability really, the connection is the same
Evan Wrote:the connection is the same
I dont think so - not having a solid, soldered/heat wrapped connection could introduce a lot of noise into the signal, and with something like the picky obd2 computer it would be enough to drop gas mileage and trigger the CEL.
