Really interesting Oil Filter study

It is geared toward turbo dodge but all oil filters from the same makers are the same. The filters actually looked at are for a 5.0 ford...which happens to fit a TD. Its a good read. I will never buy a Fram again.

frams have been considered poop for a while now. i just buy OEM and it's been all good.

didn't read the article, but pretty much every toyota made has the same thread for thier oil filter. I use the V8 filter for the supra, but somebody with a celica could too (provided no fitment issues). I'd try to put the old land cruiser filter on, but that thing is absolutely enormous (almost twice the size of the V8 filter).

Purolator is what I use after reading a bit on the Subaru Forums.

A subaru dealer once told me that while he wasn't allowed to reccomend anything other than a Subaru OEM, he said:

"Never ever, ever ever, ever ever ever use the Orange ones."

He was very clear about that.

Me? I use purolator pureone. I mean, they're cheap, readily available, and are one of the best filters on the market. Whats not to love?

I use the Pureone for all of the above reasons. Though I use Mobil One filters and synthetic oil for my Mom and Joan's car cause I lazy and only want to change their oil every 10k. Apparently the Mobil 1 filters last longer but they are damn expensive. 10 bucks @ Autozone.

That mini-mopar.com site is a damn good one. HeÔÇÖs got all kinds of good info on my cars. This was something I though some might find interesting and useful. I think I will be using the PureOne or the Mobil 1 from now on. I was scared by his reporting that the Mopar filters I have been using are just a random thing. Chrysler has given FRAM the big BAN for the big Cummins trucks. If there is an engine failure due to anything oil system related and there is a FRAM filter on it...bye bye warranty. It now says it right in the owners manual...use of a fram oil filter voids the warranty.

For a turbo car, I'd recommend going with the Euro Formula M1 10w40 - the 5w30 stuff is just too thin.

Most autozone, advance, etc carry it.

Personally, I dont like the Mobil 1 line. Last year I used the 'german' Castrol Syntec 0W30 in the ITR and it was really good stuff. Its not the regular syntec, and i've only ever found it at autozone - has a red 0W30 label on it, stamped 'made in germany' on the back label and has a green color to it and a very distinct smell. I'll dig up my oil analysis post at some point too.

I've heard the Redline oils are really good too.

They can be, i've never tried them.

Definitly can't run the Euro formula 0w30 in my car...say goodbye to the engine :lol:
I am currently running Castrol Syntec 10w40 with a Mahle oil filter. I switched over from dino oil on the last oil change and have been much happier with the synthetic.

Why? Oil is oil.... its not really rocket science.

If you compare the specs on the 0W30 castrol, its closer to most other 10W40 oils. The # rating only specifies a range of viscosity (cST).
