I need a bigger faster hard drive
#1
Was thinking about this -

<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822140155">http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6822140155</a><!-- m -->

Good deal or no? I need more space to do some more work with track video and expand my MP3 collection.

Help a n00b out Wink

that would suffice, but the price isn't great. check the hot deals section of anandtech.

You can find cheap prices on newegg. What model is your home machine? Gotta make sure it uses old school ATA.

i like Western Digital a bit better. the SE line has always performed well in tests and is usually a little cheaper compared to Maxtor. or for a little more price you can get some extras the basic Maxtor doesn't have.

like this one, just a few more dollars.

but that serial ata, so that might not help you any.

Hrm, that one has a smaller cache...... difference? I dunno.

The machine is a Dell Dimension 4550 - not likely anything special in the hardware.

i have a 4500... you got me by 50HP. and i have the extra wieght of two 80gig WD SE hard drives Smile

i doubt you'd notice any difference in cache. if any it would be small. the seek times are close as is write times. but it's a serial ata anyway.

you cannot use SATA HD's with that PC, you must stick to the ATA133's like the WD I linked you do. The SATA's use a 4 wire system where the ATA use a regular IDE cable (think big ribbon cable).
