I need a bigger faster hard drive - .RJ - 06-23-2005

Was thinking about this -

<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822140155">http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6822140155</a><!-- m -->

Good deal or no? I need more space to do some more work with track video and expand my MP3 collection.

Help a n00b out Wink

that would suffice, but the price isn't great. check the hot deals section of anandtech.

- .RJ - 06-23-2005

I'm kind of partial to ordering from newegg.... shit always shows up right the first time

- Mike - 06-23-2005

You can find cheap prices on newegg. What model is your home machine? Gotta make sure it uses old school ATA.

- lillitnn92 - 06-23-2005

i like Western Digital a bit better. the SE line has always performed well in tests and is usually a little cheaper compared to Maxtor. or for a little more price you can get some extras the basic Maxtor doesn't have.

like this one, just a few more dollars.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822144417

but that serial ata, so that might not help you any.

- .RJ - 06-23-2005

Hrm, that one has a smaller cache...... difference? I dunno.

The machine is a Dell Dimension 4550 - not likely anything special in the hardware.

- Maengelito - 06-23-2005

just keep an eye out at:

<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.slickdeals.net/">http://www.slickdeals.net/</a><!-- m -->

i bought a maxtor 200gb hard drive for like $120 with a $30 rebate coupon which i got the other day in the mail.

i have a 4500... you got me by 50HP. and i have the extra wieght of two 80gig WD SE hard drives Smile

i doubt you'd notice any difference in cache. if any it would be small. the seek times are close as is write times. but it's a serial ata anyway.

- white_2kgt - 06-23-2005

I've got about 10 of these in my disk array,

Don't forget about speed! SATA2 is beginning to show up on the market and a price drop for SATA will be coming.

you cannot use SATA HD's with that PC, you must stick to the ATA133's like the WD I linked you do. The SATA's use a 4 wire system where the ATA use a regular IDE cable (think big ribbon cable).
