Even with that amazing birthday present... I'm still holding tightly to the 11th hour MM traditions. Button up and burp things tonight, dyno tomorrow night... leave it on the trailer and load up for VIR Thursday morning, roll out to VIR around noon on Thursday. Sylvia will be quizzing me off my flash cards for the 4.5 hour trip... I think at this point she can pass the written test.

I'm still holding tightly to the 11th hour MM traditions. Sylvia continues to be The Best. Love it. As for the written test, you have been around this for so long that most of it will not be a huge surprise to you. Know your flags and know the passing rules. Especially the passing scenarios. There are a few in the CCR and I might suggest that Sylvia read those to you and ask how you should respond. We had 21 people in my comp school and 8 of us passed, but I think the majority failed for their driving. Make sure you keep on pace - this is racing school, not HPDE. You'll have some practice starts that see you race the rest of the lap - put your right foot down goddammit, you're racing now. Then get two-by-two again for the next practice start. If you do leapfrog/side-by-side drills, don't dally and keep up with the pair ahead of you. You'll be assigned a partner for those so make sure they know to keep up. Should be someone in a similar car so you won't be outmatched power-wise. Cobetto was very displeased with the Mustangs in my school driving at Miata pace. Just don't do that and you'll be good.

It's pretty much an auto-fail if you aren't keeping up with the group. You have a couple SE30s and S3 cars out there. If you aren't mixing it up or being ahead of them in an H2 car; you need to quicken your pace. 8 out of 22 is a pretty poor class, most classes see more than that passing; so don't be too worried.

I read my passing scenarios once a day (at least).
I was running a 2:20 with the old setup... non optimal motor (for VIR) that is notoriously slow at big tracks, I was running that motor in an overweight car (roughly 150lbs over), I was running the slower stock final drive, and I was "missing" my rear aero. I think I can pick up that pace with the changes I have made to the car, without motivating the driver too much (though I need to get my butt in gear, someone show me how to work this AIM thing)... I've added 75lbs (required), +45hp, new FD (4.4 to 4.928), and the big wang (set to zero AOT, to get about 200lbs of downforce up the esses). The last several HC comp school kids were in the same time range (2:18-20) as I am during comp school... then magically dropped 2-4 seconds the next day during the race. ya'll got me scared I'm too slow. it is what it is I guess. ![]()

You will be quicker by virtue of being in a racing-esque scenario. I think you're right there speed-wise with a 2:20 on sub-optimal equipment.

This makes me wonder. Would a lap record be honored if someone from a faster class was literally pushing them down the straights?
