Official Spring Karting 2015 3/29/15
#1
Karting will be on March 29th at G-Force. They could not book us on the 28th at all... As usual arrive at 9:30am. Karting starts at 10am. We will be car pooling from the R1 lot if you are a current student and can't drive or don't have a car here!

Deposit of 50% will be put down soon. It will be $1600 for the 2 hour endurance race. Right now we have around $1200 in the MM account. We really don't want to raise prices but we will be doing so. Yes, the prices are still discounted. But, we also believe it is necessary to keep MM profitable as possible so whoever has office next year will have a good amount to work with and hopefully be able to do some more fun events than we have or even in future years. Every year funds are always worried about and we want to start changing that worry.

We only had around 25 people show up last year and we are hoping we can get more this year!

Prices are a $5 increase:

Almuni - $45
Students - $35

Payment can be sent by PayPal to madisonmotorsports@gmail.com and if you need another way to pay please let us know! Paid will be marked in red.

Yay, this year I actually know people so I won't get stuck with two people not in MM that can't drive! Maybe even this year, everyone on my team will have held a driver's license before Big Grin

SPK website says closed for winter, Yelp says closed, and facebook doesn't say anything save for a guy spreading a rumor about them moving to Manassas? Damn, hope they're not closed for good, never made it out to them yet Sad

They used to be open in the winter. We did a twilight endurance once in like February. Strangely in the kart was the only place we weren't freezing our nuts off, or at least weren't thinking about it.

Trying to slow those little things down on ~30* asphalt has to be one of the most memorable butt-puckering experiences I've had. Thought I was going to just shoot straight off the track every time.

Yup, no karting at SPK. I doubt the lady at the office I called would be lying. I'm sure they will have it again sometime if not then idk.

Huh? Who hates SPK? The issue was not about SPK, it was about having a successful and fun karting event. I don't think anyone necessarily cares about SPK vs G-Force, each has its pluses and minuses.

At any rate it's surprising that they're closing down on one hand, but I could see how mismanagement could lead to a business like them having to shut down.

I know that Cars and Coffee Richmond uses them every other weekend to go karting, but have never been myself. Here is the link though: http://www.thunderboltkarting.com/

If you go thunderbolt, just make sure to find out how they handle limiters on rentals if you can rent thr track like gforce and thats what you're doing. They have like 4 levels they limit the kart to and it would suck to do an entire race in the slowest mode which from what I've heard is pretty slow since almost everybody qualifies for the next level after one race.

so "Summit Point Kart is still in business but it isnt at Summit Point but somehow we are totally still called Summit Point Kart"
Quote:TO THE CUSTOMERS AND FANS OF SPK
As many of you have figured out by now, something is up with SPK and we wanted to keep you all up to speed. Rumors have a way of filling the void when facts aren’t available, so here are the facts (and none of the rumors).
FACT.
SPK is NOT out of business. We are still alive and kicking! Actually, it looks pretty much like any other off-season for us as we’re actively working on our annual winter overhaul of our entire kart fleet.
FACT.
SPK is NO LONGER operating in Summit Point, WV. We are no longer there and have no plans to return. We won’t go into the details, but believe us; the truth is way more mundane and uninteresting than anything the rumor mill will produce.
FACT.
SPK is actively pursuing multiple locations, one of which is Nokesville VA. Our goal is and always has been to deliver the best damn concession karting on the planet, and it takes a certain kind of site to make that happen. Finding, procuring and preparing that kind of site is complicated and time-consuming. We know you understand why we won’t compromise.
FACT.
We do not have a firm grand re-opening date. We won’t b.s. you and pull some date out of thin air like, TOMORROW! Seriously, we want to be up and running as badly as you, and we’re working damn hard to make it happen as quickly as possible. Stay tuned.

Uh.. wut? hahaha.

Anyways, I was about to update this thread tomorrow as I was going to call G-Force and set everything up. We are going to be aiming for that 28th still. I know that is only a month away but the car show complicated a few things. Sorry about the delay.

Contacted G-Force. Can't be done on the 28th. They are fine with it the 29th. And then we could do it April 4th but that makes 3 weekends in a row with MM events which is pretty harsh, IMO. It sucks to do it on a Sunday but we may have too.

Also, bad news as they seem to have raised prices up $400. So now it will be $1600 for 2 hour enduro not $1200 like I've been told in the past (correct me if I'm wrong). Prices will increase and probably be asking for alumni donations or sponsors.

Need opinions ASAP as we need to transfer money for a deposit so we can confirm the date.

I guess do the earlier one. That's ~53 for each person if we get 30 people. What's the MAX number we can get? Need that price to be lower.

Do a first call? $53 is pretty pricey and with it so close you might want to see who is interested.

Unfortunately with the dates proposed, I am out :?

I have a huge intermediate exam the 30th so I'm looking to avoid the 29th cuz probably can't make it.Cry

And April 4th is Easter weekend I'd watch that. Might be hard to get people.

We usually do it so that Alumni pay a bit more than students because they usually will have some more money then students and a lower price encourage students as the event is usually primarily alumni. I can try to talk the price down once we find the date
