MM Spring Schedule (New Almost Finished Draft)
#1
Thought I'd share a quick draft of a possible spring schedule. Thoughts on dates, things that are missing, what needs to fixed, etc... This is in no way a final schedule but it gives a good idea of how the semester can/will go.

Officer's meet finished. Schedule is updated.

Karting is confirmed. $25 according to SPK's website, prices actually go down. Will be contacting them to try to rent or do something with the place so prices might change. Basically going to go on the warmer/better weather day and have an event (we will decide when the time comes) Saturday if we have to go karting Sunday.

Car Show, waiting on feedback from JMU for the date.

Spring Apparel is on its way. Will be trying to contact Moxie Friday. Traditional apparel order with the normal MM logo. Will be looking at beanies, quarter zips, zip up hoodies, and sweatpants.

The social events aren't set in stone for dates but we hope they will be around these dates. We will discuss further at the meeting on the 4th.

I'll offer some advice. At the beginning of each semester I pulled up any NASA-ma, SCCA BRR, and NASA national events (which you shouldn't have a problem with in the spring). I then put each date on the google calendar for the forum. I then would go in and find the slots and put everything in there. That way someone can go onto the forum and click the calendar and see what is happening this month, year, week etc.

Also:

Go talk to Debbie in person it saves you so much time. She'll literally hand you all the contacts, call people right there on the spot etc.

If you don't receive a response by tomorrow morning, just drop by. Email has become "ignore till it's an issue" for most working people nowadays. If I want something done now, I don't email anymore, I just walk on over or call. This is a hard lesson to learn at least for me, as I am not really a people person and I am very good at keeping an organized email inbox, so I don't understand when emails get "lost".

Man, I hate when people don't reply to emails. I make a point of reading everything I receive, filing it all, replying to it all, etc.

My old boss was the worst. She literally told me one time "Oh I didn't understand the subject line so I just didn't open it." That got me to learn real fast to just call.

Anyway, this looks like a good start, guys. I want a new fleece-y thing when the apparel order happens. Mine would only fit properly if I was like 5'9".

Re: karting, is one of those dates locked down yet (since you say "karting is confirmed")? I'll keep the weekend blocked off for now but wording is kinda confusing there.

Yeah I wasn't sure how to word. I'm basically saying. Karting will be that weekend. We are going to try to go on the day that has better weather. So let's say Sunday is a bit warmer or not raining. For Saturday since we didn't go karting we could get the club to go get a big lunch or a top gear day or something of that sort (alumni of course can come that is my thoughts on making like a mini-event on Satuday if we can't Kart Saturday). Then Sunday we head up to karting.

If weather was better Saturday karting would be Saturday and then we would do a hangout or whatever the next day with Alumni.

What I don't want to happen is sign Saturday the official date then the weather be complete shit and then we don't have karting lol.

Makes sense. I'd try to pick one of the two dates sooner than later though, if you want to guarantee maximum attendance - particularly from the aluMMs.

I'm going to Moxie tomorrow to get prices and then will make a thread on here with them and what everyone wants.

Yeah that's the hard thing about an outdoor spot like SPK. However, if we want to make it an MM event I don't think you can get around reserving ahead of time.

On a nice day at SPK there are gonna be a lot of people out there. Even if you arrive early you're only going to be able to sign up for one session out of 3 or 4. If we come with 10-20 people some people may have to wait 2 hours to get their second session. And we wouldn't really get to race as a group.

Maybe you can work something out with SPK, maybe talk to them about what you're trying to do and see what they say. But I wouldn't want a bunch of people to come out and be disappointed because they waited for hours to get one session in.

Maybe we could grill out in the parking lot or something to fill in the time and socialize, but we'd need to get that cleared with SPK. Another idea is that maybe we could hook up a Xbox/PS4 indoors so people have something to do while they wait.

Good point, G. I was assuming SPK had been contacted and OK'd us reserving the entire facility for a few hours, as we've done with G-Force in Richmond in years past.

That's not really mm karting. That's, hey guys, you all want to pick a date and go karting and hope that you get to race against at least a couple people you know. I'm not saying don't do spk at all. But since it doesn't really cost the club, gforce or a rental would be cool at least once a year. Fall is fine too. So it wouldn't even be these officers problem. I would just still like an Enduro mm only event

Hey, there's still time for them to plan. Who knows?

Jake, I mentioned SPK needed to be contacted but we chose that weekend because that is when we will be doing karting regardless of where we go.

Sullivan, I don't see how this means anything you said. G-Force does cost the club a lot since for the last 2 years we have lost a few hundred $'s at G-Force. Like I mentioned in a earlier post, SPK still needs to be contacted about possible rental so we can kart together. I will try to call this weekend as well as send an email

There would be no way to tell spk that we'd like to rent your track for one of those two days but we'll let you know the morning of because we want whichever day is nicer.

I know gforce costs the club money but there an easy fix for that. Raise the rate $5 for everyone and boom, you break even. I'm not saying you have to do gforce this semester. Gforce was a fall thing and happened to have enough attendance at one point to do it in the spring as well. Attendance has fallen off so I would cancel the spring one for now anyway. I'm mainly saying, I hope whoever takes over next at least knows it used to be a thing so that maybe it can happen again.

And perhaps i didnt read closely enough but it didn't sound like it was going to be a track rental style event. I think the wording of we'll pick one of those two days threw me off

Well we have some people complaining about raising prices. We realize SPK isn't perfect for everyone but we haven't been in a long time. We can screw around if we aren't racing together. Competition isn't everything.
