It might be a little chilly, but come dust off the cobwebs, shake down your car and autocross with NASA Mid-Atlantic!
You'll get a minimum of 5 runs, on a course set up at Virginia Motorsports Park in Petersburg, VA. Always a fun, fast time there. It's $40 for the day of driving.
I will be going, as will some of the other "track regulars" that some of you youngins may have met. Should have full safety gear (seat, roll bar, harness, steering wheel) in the M3 by then, and I need to burn off my old Star Specs before I get new tires. So, whoever wants to co-drive the car, let me know. Not sure if I will have the slider base on the seat, so you may need to be This Tall To Drive (aka, shorties may not reach the pedals).

If you register early enough, you can request to drive Heat 1, work Heat 2, and get home in time to see some men in tights throw a ball back and forth.

I never understood why NASA-X is always on a holiday weekend or a known event weekend?! It seems to hurt participation most of the time, sometimes to the point of having to reschedule the event.

Dunno. There's a lot to coordinate so it might just work out the way it does based on timing.
I will say that if you only care about the commercials of the Super Bowl, this will be a better time.

I'm the furthest thing from a throwball fan, but it'd take a lot to get me off the couch for an autocross in winter - unless it's snowing. Add an excuse for wings and beer to the mix?
If the weather looks good/tolerable as it gets close and I still have no other plans, I'm there! 3 year old RS-3's are a blast in the cold!

Yea, I'm not a football fan but I don't think I'd want to autocross on a day like that. Im not a huge auto cross fan either, but I won't get into that.
I understand NASA schedule is crazy and the lot is more high profile than say the Augusta county governor center but still makes it hard to commit

Hmm. I may come. I don't think i have work that weekend
what is the latest time one may register?
2013 Honda Fit, 1991 Mazda Miata, Princess Blanca, Mystery, 1993 Volvo 940 - sold, 2003 Mazda Protoge5 - carmax'd, 1996 BMW 328is - sold, 1996 Honda Accord - sold
The latest one may register is about 11am on site that day, assuming spaces are still available. Pre-registration usually closes the Thursday or Friday night prior, and is cheaper than an on site reg by at least 10 bucks.
We had 77 drivers at this event in 2013 (and nearly 90 drivers in prior seasons around that time of year) so I guess the super bowl isn't that much of a conflict. But as someone said, request "drive heat 1 work heat 2" when you pre-register and be on the road home by 4pm or earlier... kickoff is 6:30p. Or it's entirely possible that the weather will delay us a week, we did reserve Feb 9 also just in case.

Bro! At least 38 psi, bro.
We should switch cars for a run, you'll see what I mean about why a loose/twitchy E36 is moar funner. :-)

But then see why it's so much slower

It may still be on the 9th, too early to say for sure

During the regular season we usually take whatever VMP dates we are offered. This is due to their busy schedule of many other activities like drag racing (which makes a lot more $ for the facility than renting the parking lot for autocross.) Sometimes there are conflicts, sure. But we remain convinced that "any autocrosses at VMP are better than none at all" if that makes sense... and admittedly sometimes we are wrong.
In this particular instance we chose Feb 2 because we had 77 drivers on super bowl Sunday last year. It was the biggest NASA-X of the year (and the winter event the year before was the biggest of that year also) so we assumed based on fact that it wasn't too much of a conflict. The people who want seat time seem to appreciate this opportunity. Again, maybe we're wrong, but historically it doesn't seem like we are.

Already nearly 40 people signed up for Feb 2. So I think our educated guess was correct
