Its just such a let down after they teased us with that badass concept. I like it from the front fenders forward, but everything behind the windshield could be a Corolla. If it even remotely imitated the hips on that concept I'd be pretty bothered by it and want to test drive one.

Also...I don't see that much difference between the Concept and the production. The grill is different sure, and the wheels, obviously. But did you think those little tiny mirrors were gonna make it to production? Or the door handles? It is zero surprise to every person alive that the WRX is going to be built on the impreza platform (like every other WRX ever) so you have to work inside those constraints.

It's a little more reserved than previous models, but then considering the "skinny" 08 wrx, not really?

I really like the front end of the car, obviously I understand they aren't going to release a $25k car with LEDs, video camera mirrors and hideaway door handles. I know I drive a VW but I'm not a complete fucking idiot.

Everything from the front doors back is a massive let down IMO. Any sort of bulge on those fenders that remotely mimicked the lines on the concept would save it for me, but if you put your hand over the front 1/4 of it, it looks exactly like any other japanese econobox. It's definitely better than the "skinny" ones, but also definitely worse than the most recent model.

Subaru really lost their way with the WRX/STi after 2007. The GR series hatchbacks are alright, just not much like the older STi's, but the newer sedans have just been terrible.

exactly what I expected.

this was the impreza concept from 2011
[Image: Subaru-Impreza-Concept-Geneva-01.jpg]

see how it didnt look like the production 2012 impreza.

the wrx concept was a flared version of that car. also, not surprisingly didnt end up being exactly like the production.

although honestly, it looks pretty close as far as concepts go.

Im just bummed that they are killing the hatchback. I think in the 2008+ cars the hatchback looked MUCH better

I feel like I see way more hatchbacks over sedans driving around. Subaru must not like money.

It's a bit of a letdown, the production model is toned down a bit more than I thought it would be. But still, when has a WRX ever really been pretty? It looks decent, and as long as it has the performance to match I'll be happy.

Now if there isn't a hatchback, that would be a huge letdown. I hope the hatch will be coming down the pipe later because that's on my short list of practical cars whenever G III comes off the assembly line.

This.

And, personally, I see more sedans than hatchbacks around here. Guess it's regional preference?

I see more sedans around here than hatchbacks too, far more. But yes, everyone else is wrong, the hatchback is better looking and more practical.

maybe the federal government should require 50% of all cars to be hatchbacks; they could tack that onto the trans fat ban :dunno:
