The annual College Challenge is coming up!
Who is going to be there representing MM?
For those of you who have never autocrossed or driven competitively before, this is a great time to get your feet wet. It's affordable, close, and there will probably be a lot of experienced MM'ers there to help answer any questions you may have.
If you're interested in making it out and aren't sure where to start with prepping or anything, no worries, as Unca Rex has already solved that problem here So you wanna do an autocross
Driving:
Jake Thiewes- G Stock
Jason Lineberg- H Stock
Adam Flint- ASP
Brad Fischer- B Stock
Justin Gallamore- ESP
Ryan Herold- Novice
Gerald Irish- A Stock
Peter Tyson- STX (?)
Matthew Walker (?)
Adam Lee- D Stock

2017 Toyota iA/Mazda 2
I'd love to, but I suspect the family unit would be mad with me being gone to a car event 4 out of 5 straight weekends... We'll see, but it's unlikely.
JMU students, if you have ever even considered doing an AutoX, this is an event you should not miss. It's a blast and totally worth participating, regardless of whether you think your car is "ready" (hint: it never is). Get out there and have fun - you may be shocked at how much you can learn from a single event if you push yourself (and maybe get somebody experienced to ride with you).
I'm a little concerned that an MM officer didn't post this. We started the challenge, guys, so the representation needs to be strong.
I will be there, most likely in the ST. It classes into G-Stock. Would probably enjoy finding a couch to crash on in the area if that's do-able.
Also, I reached out to Garrett and told him to raffle off a spot in the driver's seat of the ST for some manual-driving, car-less freshman. So long as they can drive stick and not roast my clutch, I'm happy to get an ass in a seat.

Sorry guys, I've been absolutely hammered with schoolwork. Caught the sickness going around and I've been playing catch up ever since. We have a meeting next week to give out shirts etc and I'll pass the word around. I've talked to all the other presidents of car clubs and no one but Ben Maddock (CCVT) has expressed any interest whatsoever.

This.
If I can manage to get halfway up the PAX chart with a dead-stock Corolla on the cheapest all-seasons I could find, I think that's proof enough that you can learn a lot just by getting seat time.
Also, it is 99% risk free.

I'm sure we will. And no worries! Like I've told the other officers, I need to take a lesser role until I can catch up on all my schoolwork. We've had a lot of interest in the autocross from within the club so I'm not worried about that. I wish some of the other clubs would be more interested... everyone seems to have drifted to the Jon Polen stanceworks krew.

Remember to cater to them as well. We didn't all start out loving autox the day we got a car. Some of us even had underglow back in the day.......... (I am willing to bet we are going to laugh about stretch and excessive camber like we do for underglow one day).

I'm an awful driver, so the folks on the BRR forum are wondering who's going to represent JMU. General consensus is that VCCS or CCVT are going to win the challenge.

Hope some of our good drivers make it out then, because I'm slow as heck too.
Whatever, worst case scenario I go slow and still have fun. :dunno:
