Update from Cali
#1
Well the noobs on this forum don't know me and the OG's don't like me but these facts will not stop me from dropping a little update.

I'm (still) out in Monterey, California at the Defense Language Insitute. I'm currently in the second semester of the basic Urdu course. I received an A for the first semester which was pretty sweet, in my opinion.

I wish I could do what Evan once did when asked I asked him to cite from the Qur'an (google search for out of context translations) but they actually expect me to learn this shit and I am trying to oblige them.

In case you were unaware Urdu is a mongrel language spoken mainly in Pakistan which features equal parts Arabic, Persian, Sanksrit and English. My instructors also throw in plenty of Punjabi slang for fun.

Currently I'm just trying to get through this course so I can move on to the cyrpto/surival/aerial training but I am makeing it a little tougher on myself because I plan to take the proficiency test in both Urdu and Hindi which will require learning the devanagari form of writing and what I hope is no more than three hundred Hindi specific words.

I'll see NoVa for the first time since I left this past March this coming Christmas day. I'm pretty excited to have a few weeks off.

That's all I got,

Arabic is a pretty crazy language. I'm not sure how much you can tackle in just one regular college semester but if you get into it I can probably find you some good material to aid you in learning.

Arabic is a nightmarish language to learn. We send our guys to classes 40 hours a week and it still takes them several months just to get a beginners grasp of the language. Hows DLI for working for you? I got a Puerto Rican buddy in the sandbox right now and he learn English pretty well coming out of DLI school.

Which guys are our guys? And I don't know about nightmare...I'd choose Arabic over Korean or Mandarin...if they had bothered to ask me.

Glad to hear you're making good progress, man.

I spent three years living out in Monterey while my Dad went to school at DLI. I hope you get to enjoy a little bit of the area... how long will your stay last?
When it comes to Ryan Jenkins, the story ends with me putting him in the wall.
