So, I just got a job in the "metro area." dont know specifically where yet, but im 99% sure im taking the job. I think it's going to be on the south side - that's arlington right? Didnt someone have a room in a house in that area? Job starts in january I think

Your job location dictates where you can live around here. If your commute is hell, you will hate it.

You might want to be more specific about where your job is... you'll want to spend a day or two sitting in morning traffic before you decide on a place to make sure that the commute is bearable as well.

I am pretty sure it's going to be in Crystal City, but I wont know for sure until I can call and ask. The 3 job offers I got from the company basically just gave me a title and a contact for each of them - no further details really. Just thinking outloud here really for now, but it would be awesome to find some people to live with that I "know"...to save on some rent maybe. I dont know yet...this is the start of my house shopping I guess.

395(adjacent to Crystal City) can be a parking lot if you leave at the wrong time. Its hit or miss.

There isnt a right time to leave crystal city or SW DC.

There is no way in hell I could live up that way. After dealing with traffic on the beltway and 66 for the past couple of days during training, I wanted to gouge my eyeballs out ... and I was going AGAINST traffic most of the time!!

I'd much rather drive 45 minutes one way to work with 0 traffic than travel 2.5 miles in an hour.

Julie takes the VRE into the city everyday to avoid the traffic. Its like an hour one way in from here, but its steady and she can read listen to music or sleep. She loves it. Also they have a crystal city stop on the train so keep that in mind too. Its really not that expensive once you figure in gas, wear and tear on your car, and the potential to have some retard in a SUV talking on a cell phone rearend you.

Yeah Ive taken the VRE in from Backlick Road to Union Station the last two summers for my internships, and my father has been taking the VRE in for as long as I can remember. Definitly worth looking into.

It's looking like work will probably start like 2nd week of January. I havent actually accepted the offer yet, but I am 99% sure I am going to. Just trying to decide which project to start out on.

OK...accepted the job..w00t! Gotta go take a wizz quiz today, and I'll be all set. Apparently Arlington is the place to be - that's what my new boss recommended. So, I never quite figured out...do yall still have a place/room available? Also...are there garages for rent at reasonable rates in the area? I need a place to park my busted and non busted pile.

Thats all you need. Rent a room, buy furniture, buy a car, and get a massage with a happy ending.

South Arlington is a bit ghetto in some areas, so check it out before you rent. Coming from North Arlington to crystal city isnt *that* bad but its not great either. Getting a place with available garage space in arlington might be a bit tough. You might also want to check out falls church, fairfax, and springfield areas.... all within reasonable distance of work *IF* you leave early enough in the morning, like 6:30. I go right past crystal city when I go into SW DC fur customer meetings in the morning, and there's a huge difference in transit time between leaving at 6:30 and leaving after 7:00.

Congrats on the job man. I was talking to John the other day and he said he didn't even start making calls yet for the job fairs...I'll tell him not to give you a ring.

We do have one room if you want to check it out, but it's pretty small. We've considered putting an ad out for a 5th, but haven't acted on it yet. We already have 7 cars, 2 bikes, and a trailer, so parking might start to get rough, but we can start putting a few out on the street.

Hrmm..interesting. I am not terribly worried about traffic, because I can always travel at off-peak times, because the job doesnt require you to be in at a set time. I guess I'll browse through CL, but, unless they are super model women, I dont really want to rent with people I dont know.

Also, I found out that the location is "not really" near a metro station according to my new Boss...or, i think he's my boss anyway. He said driving is the best option, unless you want to ride the metro, get off, and ride a bus. That seems like a pain in the ass to me
