Just got back from seeing it, has my vote for best movie of the year...typical Michael Mann goodness. I highly recommend that you go see it if you haven't. Only things that could've been improved on IMO is character depth, some who have more than minor roles you don't even know their names or what they do in the story. I watched the show, and though you can tell they share the same directors, the original had better music and transitional scenes...Sonny and Tubbs blasting down the highway in their black Ferrari 275 set to Phil Collins' "In the Air Tonight"....classic.
If you saw Collateral (also directed by MM), it had all those signature "quiet" times, cruising around...Miami Vice could've used some more of that style but the airplane/"go fast boat" shots were excellent. It isn't all about shoot 'em up action...the show wasn't, and none of his subsequent movies were either. Overall, great movie 8)
I still say Heat is still the best Michael Mann film, much more in depth, immerses you more. If you haven't seen that, its a definite must, IMO one of the best films of recent times. Its a little long, but well worth it!
If it has the Goodspeed seal of approval, I'll go see it! Anyone from the burg want to see it?

Considering something with a 7.8 makes the Top 250 list I'd say their rankings are a bit skewed... especially since a lot of people vote without even seeing the movie.

"Here, at last, is the cure for texting while driving. The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth
Yeah a lot of the reviews I've seen seem to complain that its not like the TV show. Well duh, its not 1985 anymore...
Still I don't see very many movies in the theater, The Doctor, the Tornado, and the Kentucky Kid might be my last for awhile.

And I wonder how many of them remember the TV show
If it really was just like the TV show the reviews would be awful!

I think the New York Times gave it pretty good reviews, but all in all I HATE reading reviews...a bunch of angry 70 year old men that over analyze everything. Whatever, I suggest you go see it if you haven't, I liked it, maybe you will
i enjoyed it, that ferrari was awesome and so was that charger....
I saw it last night and liked it a lot. I heard mixed reviews, but I also don't like reviews that much.
