I've been behind a SM doing a very similar roll down the chute at Summit. hrug:

"Here, at last, is the cure for texting while driving. The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth
so you were the guy that shoved the SM!

Yeah that cage did amazingly well. Joey even commented that it wasn't origionally designed for that sort of impact, but the builders did some extra things and put a lot of time into it just in case. That's pretty rewarding for the builders.

Odd. Its an ex-PTG car, so it should be a BMW motorsport chassis (cage built with the shell at the factory).

I'm sorry, but NO SM has flown 142' in the air at summit point and NO SM has been launch off a big pile of dirt at summit point either.

You sure? I've seen cars fly from the apex of T4 all the way into the dirt in T5. And last year, a miata was launched on the inside of T3 INTO the trees - as in, he didnt come down, he stayed IN A TREE. Same with a FFR cobra last year.
Shit happens on every track and summit is "worse" than mid-ohio. If you dont want to do nationals thats one thing, but you dont need to come up with excuses for it. I'm not going because i'm broke

Where is there a jump pile of dirt at summit? Sure, cars have bounced in the air b/c of dirt but show me one place that a pile of it is next to the track at summit? If I drive off track, or am forced off and am only a few feet away from black stuff I don't expect to hit a pile of dirt, now if I'm down in the weeds 100' from the track thats another story.
I'm probably not going to do nationals at this point anyway and it has nothing to do with the track.
white_2kgt Wrote:I'm probably not going to do nationals at this point anyway and it has nothing to do with the track.
Well, thats not true entirely, but basically they need to get their head out of their asses, the latest thing is they want to charge $50 to activate WiFi in the garages that already are going to cost $1,000 for the event.

Well if you are going to wait for nasa national to get their heads out of their asses you're going to be waiting a long time. I'm tempted to go as someone's crew to watch how things are run this year but I'm not putting my car anywhere near that mess. The $1000 garages are just rediculous, I split one last year for $75 for 3 days I think.
My point was that most tracks all have areas that are not going to be that safe and will really fuck your car up if you end up on them.

Agreed. However, these places should not be 5 FEET from the racing surface.

Mid-O has lots of things very close to the racing surface that you dont want to hit... lots of concrete. Its not as bad as road atlanta, but its still there and you never really forget about it.

Wait, who's charging $1000 for the garages, NASA Nat'l or Mid O?

So many comments I want to make about Nationals, but I guess I'll be a good boy and keep my mouth shut and drink the kool-aid.

Pretty sure that is MO, .RJ made the connection to NASA, but seems like NASA could have done _something_ to get those cost down for us.

Eh, it seems like one of those supply/demand things. They think they can get a lot more money for the garages because there'll be a lot of cars there. On one hand can't blame 'em but on the other hand its the kind of thing that pisses people off and makes them not want to give you ANY of their money.
It reminds me of all the local hotel price gouging for Moto GP at Laguna last year. I think a lot of people aren't coming back because of it.

NASA national does some things that are nothing but revenue generators but wave the kool aid box and say "we are doing it because its good for the racers!!!"
Its a bunch of crap, IMO. I wonder if they are charging $1000 for garages to make up on track rental fees for the week. You can split the garages 2 ways but they're too small for anything other than that. They are also supposed to include air and interweb but neither of those worked when I was there.
I say let nasa-va run the nationals show

It is $50 to activate the WiFi PER garage
