OK. So I'm probably in the market for something new. 2004 - 2007ish. Looking for something in the $25k and under range. I kind of like the idea of AWD - so I could probably pick up a suby of some sort - what else out there is AWD? I went looking around today..so many choices, I dont really know where to start. Today I went and looked at some WRX's, a 350Z or two, Cobalt SS, Pontiac G6 GTP..blah. Suggestions/recommendations? TIA

I've said it before and I'll say it again, a used WRX is a *lot* of car for the money. Figure 12-15k for a nice example (although I haven't looked lately, so YMMV). Reliable, fast, AWD. ~25 mpg. Do it

what are the best year models for wrx's? I Know they're a good car for the money, but are some years better than others?

Also - I do a ton of interstate driving - so I really want something that has enough ass to pull the hills/mountains around here pretty easily

your AWD cars are...

Mitsubishi EVO, any subaru (WRX, STi, legacy GT is nice as shit as well), Audi A4, BMW 325xi (heard they are slow as balls), Mazdaspeed6

Thats the most of em i can think of in your price range. Other nice used cars in that price range though, RX8, G35 (the shit), 350Z, BMW 325

Good luck...

Dont get a rex, get a nice legacy gt. Only subaru you should get. I do like the audis, evo maybe too hardcore. rx-8 a waste, 350z surprisingly slow for the hype and well everybody on this board knows my view of a bmw (overpriced slow, non-engaging car, mind you this is on 2000 and up bmws)

So there you go, my opinion, legacy gt or an audi.

Well and the mazdaspeed 6 and cobalt I have not driven yet so no opinion.

Well, the body style changed for MY04 - I'm not sure what else changed. Some folks have had transmission chatter issues on the early US models, but past that I can't think of anything off the top of my head to worry about. I'd have zero regrets buying a cheap '02 that hadn't been modded to hell and back.

Hrmm.. I had kinda forgotten about Audi's. Only problem with those and the 325 is that they have a little higher mileage than I was looking for - and if they didnt, they'd probably be out of my range. Still something to think about.

I do like the legacy GT's - I figured they wouldn't be in that range though, so hadnt really started looking at them. Why do you guys suggest that over a wrx?

As far as space - sedan or coupe doesnt realllly matter. Space should be about average..leaning towards larger than average. I think evo's might be too small?

I don't really see you mentioning it, but a family friend of ours is trying to sell his grey (gunmetal?) RX8. Very well taken care of, hasn't been beat on. PM me if you want his contact info.

I can't really make any recommendations, I cant't buy new(ish) cars!

legacy GT can be had used for like 25k or brand new for around 26-28k. make sure you get the 05 and up model, they are the pimp ness. Comparing to the WRX, only thing i can think of is more luxury. Never driving a WRX all i can tell you is how the legacy GT drives. Good acceleration, pretty even across the powerband. Suspension is a nice balance not to rough not to soft, but I didnt get to test it out to hard cause of the slow drivers in front of me, so if anyone has driven one balls out let Derek know. Dunno if you want a Manual or auto, but the manual has a nice feel, 1st and 2nd were a lil short, you hit redline pretty fast when flooring it, but nice power when cruising, dont have to downshift when passing on the highway in 5th, boost is pretty much instant. MPG is 19city and i believe 27-28 Highway. My friend has one and hasnt had any complaints, its rated at 250 hp, and some STi parts can be used for that go fast itch. Good luck.

why would it be sarcastic?
have you ever driven one? fantastic cars. One of the best handling cars you can buy, look great, seats 4 better than my wrx, and pulls like a banshee up to 9k

if you are addicted to the torquey feel, audi's with the turbo 4 will not dissapoint, especially with an upgraded computer chip... you can expect to gain a boatload of power for the money with one.

i can tell you though, that they like to be maintained and will be more expensive in the long run.

i'd either go with a legacy GT or the RX-8. even though you have to rev the RX to get it to go, its really a neat car that is very practical.

Knew i should have test drove one, got distracted by the mazdaspeed6 though, my mission is to now testdrive a rx-8, hmmm rx-8 with greddy turbo kit or evo???

Derek i say go with the legacy GT, and from the looks of it a few others agree. Theres a legacy GT spec B here in Harrisonburg, sure its $35k but atleast you could testdrive it and get a feel for the regular GT. Only difference is Shocks and a ugly ass interior.

G35 coupe. That's my vote. Over the RX8. Silly rotaries. Who'd ever trust one of those?

I wouldn't say it pulls like a banshee, they are actually rather slow from my experience. They handle great and I love how they feel but they are lacking in the power department. I pulled on one in my n/a supra for goodness sakes, and its slow.

Thats got to be the worst rationale for a car being slow or fast that I have ever heard. Dont forget to hit up Drag-VA.com and post your k1ll dawg!

They have the best top-end of any car that Ive driven, but then again I didnt street race it, so what do I know.

good call jack, a G35 coupe w/ sport package would be my choice #2
