Sand casting is done on some production cars (Saturns, for one). Its a really neat process but the benefit is a lighter, smaller package because it is easier to cast things like brackets into the block, rather than bolting those brackets on. It works really well for low volume applications since the "mold" is a CNC cut piece of foam.

wow, interesting
awesome bike of course hock:
I won't say all, but V4's are pretty much the standard in MotoGP right now. They rung Big-Bang to solve tire heat issues, but flow just as much air as a 4 cylinder (to solve the v-twin flow problems). Very cool technology to say the least.
Oh, and you know what? Those motorcycle(s) I have in the basement are V4
See? I don't make entirely stupid decisions. Alright, that might be pushing it.

200hp jeez, is that like insane hp for a bike or just like an avg hp rating?? not familiar with the HP of bikes, but didnt think it was that high???
WSBK's are getting up towards 200hp now, and Moto GP bikes have 240-250hp. Top speed down the straight at Mugello's race today will probably be close to 220mph.

So whats a HP rating on a production bike like a 600rr or a r6?
115-135hp

Wow, I knew Ducati's were expensive bikes, but starting at 65 grand!! I wonder how big their market is with such expensive bikes.

Not really... it's kind of in NR750 territory right now. Honda doesn't want people to know about it as it's their current race engine. Rumor has it that the back bank is using oval cylinders (which are illegal... I'm not sure how they'd get away with that during tech). It's been one of the best bikes on the grid for some time and I think they're trying to keep people from figuruing out why (aside from money). I could be wrong, though, I just haven't seen anything on the motor that's what I'd call comprehensive yet.

Ducati will have no problem moving the small number of sedicicis they are going to produce. Custom Choppers sell for well over a hundred thousand and $65,000 for an almost GP spec bike is pocket change to some people. Hell I would buy one in a heartbeat if I thought I could afford it....Oh and 999R owners get priority when reserving the RR.
