At long-last the engine blew out a couple of weeks ago. This car has a load of good parts for the 280ZX collector, and IÔÇÖd rather sell it for something than give it away, although thatÔÇÖs a possibility for the right person. Not much assessed value for donating. The car is fairly strong otherwise, with the required amount of rust on the normal places, but it just might be someoneÔÇÖs project car.

The 300ZX is 2 miles away, and will soon need to occupy the street parking space, so give me a sign, if you have some interest in the 280.

Brown with reddish interior. Stock wheels, good seats, dash is good except where the new CD player replaced the original panel. No banged in fenders or bent frames. New power window circuit breaker. New belts, wiper blades. Tires pretty good, not in need of replacement. Probably lots of parts I can't think of to mention, but you know what you want. Automatic transmission, for one. Lights and lenses. Would sell specific parts if timing was right. Anything below the surface, though, you'd need to tow it away.

If youÔÇÖre serious, IÔÇÖll email pix. Make an offer.

Found it while looking for a project car, I am just doing some research. It is odd that it was right after the Z presentation tonight tho...

Craigslist.com doesnt discriminate unless your purposely searching for the car.

I was looking at 280z a while back. If anyone does decide to get one, learn bodywork and welding cause those things started rusting on the ships coming from Japan.

Thanks Justin, I appreciate it

Mike, the 280ZX is ugly as all hell (79 being the first year of the 2nd gen. Z), but the 280Z looks almost exactly like the 70-74 240Z....with .4 more litres of displacement to boot (later 280Z's having 170hp, the highest of the first gens)

The 280Z....ugly mandated 5mph crash bumpers....scrap those and it looks just like the 240

Id definately rather have a 240, but the 240s are harder to come by, and you can rip the ugly crap off the 280 and improve the look dramatically

granted, the 280 looks a lot like the 240. However, as you stated in your presentation, every year brought a more portly Z car than the one it followed. When I do my vintage project car, it will be a 70-72 240z and nothing else.

Thats true...the 240 weighed just 2355 and the 280 was close to 2800, granted though that is still light for a street car. The 280 did come with 170hp (77-78 I believe) and Bosch EFI. I guess if you want to stick with the stock L28 straight six, you'd want a 240, and possibly swap the 280 engine in (esp. if you don't like finnicky carbs) If you plan on a motor swap (V8, SR20), then any model is game

i think it was my second or third weekend in hpde ever, my instructor russ kaplan had a white and rust colored 240z with the straight six. it was just the motor, wheels, cage and seats and nothing else. there were rust holes in the floor board that i could watch the track through while riding. but damn that thing was fast and nimble. made me want one of those real bad

Yeah the 1st gen Zs seem to be especially prone to rust, lots of stories out there about just how prone they are to have such problems. Still, clean, rebuilt Zs can be had for just a few grand...they may be a little rough around the edges, but they'd make awesome project cars. I myself am wondering whether or not I want a 30 year old car in college, but damn they are one of my favorite cars of all time

that's close to what I want to do.

My intentions are to do the engine swap on the Supra, which will leave me with an NA 2JZ laying around. Hopefully in that timeframe I'll have a running 240z that will be undergoing body work and semi-restoration. Drop in the spare supra engine and sell the L-block. We'll see how many years it takes me to get there...

Sounds awesome Dave. I just hope I'll get to see this before I graduate . Well, who am I kidding, i'll probably end up in NoVa. That would be a pretty peppy combo...you should go with ITB's to keep that 70's style!

I've seen your car around campus, I have the blue 280z with the plates "POS Z". I'm getting ready to sell mine on ebay though, unless one of you wants to take it off my hands for $1,200.
