ew.... mid-town and adams-morgan are way better than dupont and clarendon.
also noted a lot of people are in to hiking/camping. weekend trip this summer?
way better and way farther away - where the hell is "mid-town" (georgetown?)
i guess seeing that i started this thread i should contribute? like many of you have said of yourselves, i have way, WAY too many things that take up my time. way.
- art of course....i prefer ink/charcoal, but enjoy painting in any medium and sculpture is a fun excercise that i don't take too seriously. cars are always a primary subject.
- architecture. i got into, and out of it like 5 times but i never really leave it. contemporary architecture facinates me.
- raquetball, i love it and need to find a court BAD
- soccer.....played all my life but miss it more than ever now that i haven't played competitively for a long time. like rball, i need to find a venue or rec team BAD.
- scale models. i had a kick ass model railroad at one point, which came down after about 10 years of build up. as of right now i work with 1/48 warplanes and 1/24 cars. its great stress relief (or is that the glue fumes?)
- r/c cars, which i'm not currently active with, is something i can't wait to get back into. i started that money guzzling activity when i was in 5th grade.
- mountain biking. recently upgraded to a Diamondback Apex. not easy to mt. bike in metro atlanta but i still get out when i can and find technical stuff to manuever around.
- marine aquarium, mines been established for roughly 5 years but has never had a chance to thrive due to constant moving. through enourmous amounts of reading and experimenting i have learned that it is incredibly addictive and beautiful.
- racing sims...go figure
- fly fishing. this takes up at least half my weekends in a year. i've found nothing as serene as being alone on a quiet river while fly casting. it is an art form in itself and is very, very different from the typical angling experience.
- cooking....not very good yet but i finally have the right tools and find it really rewarding
- spirited driving "trips", naturally being a car enthusiast who doesn't like these. i really enjoy making an event out of a driving day, and right now i'm pulling my hair out living in the city and regretting i didn't drive 33W every damn day when i was at JMU.
- photography - see cooking
- and of course, driving/working on the car. i'm in a hard spot right now without a garage and newly married but in a few years i'll be looking forward to some killer projects
- oh yeah, i love dogs. i can't wait til i have the space for one.

dupont is between mid-town and adams morgan so i'm no sure how that makes either of them "much further away." mid-town is anything right around GWU... mcfadden's, rumours... don't waste your time in georgetown, it sucks.

Wow.
I was going to post a link to a google image search for "circle jerk" for this thread.
Then, at the last minute, I decided not to.
Lucky you.

There's some good spots within an hour's drive from downtown - I can dig up some links later if you want, I didnt get out as much as I would have liked to when I was down there but there's definately some bad ass mtb trails in the area.

wow, I'm a loser! This thread is reminding me that I have an unhealthy lack of hobbies. I don't think I've enjoyed anything other than video games and cars on any regular basis in the last 10 years. I no longer have any outlet for the creativity I used to have, and I don't do anything to further my education. And I'm really dedicated to absolutly nothing. I have other "interests" and dreams/schemes but so rarely follow up on them. Of course it doesn't help that I don't have a whole lot of expendable income to do so, but I can't blame it all on that.
Somehow, I'm usually content.
The only thing that stops a bad guy with a van is a good guy with a van
Scotty, it's crazy how much you and I are alike.
Soccer for me has fallen by the wayside. I was very good, played for many years, travelled to Germany and played some. I just got sick of our shitty high school team and it really killed competitive soccer for me. I do still love it and follow it occasionally though.
Video games have always been a big part of my life. I lost a good part of my high school / college years to Everquest, and am very glad I gave it up hah. I really don't have time to play them much anymore, but I host custom games on Warcraft 3 occasionally and still play UT2k4.
Cars are now my #1 love and bar none my #1 money pit.
Trance and techno music is my second passion. I love going to clubs and getting lost in the music and the atmosphere. Some of my favorite nights out have been at clubs. There is absolutely nothing that changes my perspective on life better than music, and more specifically electronic music.
I should feel obligated to say girls, but I have a complete love / hate relationship with women. I love the girl I'm with (we're back together in case anyone missed that), but I hate how girls ARE. That's the only way I can describe it in simplistic terms. I feel like a lot of the time if women didn't have what they have up north and down south, they would be completely useless to me, which is probably a byproduct of:
a) my selfishness
b) my independence / self-containment
Drinking. I love to drink, and it does scare me. Substance addiction is somewhat prevalent in my family; my dad, just as an example, was a heavy alcoholic for many years. Fortunately I was able to kick the majority of my bad habits except for this one. As I've become 100xs more productive over the past year than I have my entire life, I'm starting to see more and more how detrimental even occasional heavy binge drinking is to your energy and your health. I'd like to transition to an occasional / special occasion drinker instead of a once or twice a week heavy drinker (weekends).
That's all I can think of!

please do. I'd love to share my victories/defeats with those who want to get started because, like many things i do in life, i took THE hardest route into the hobby and made every single newbie mistake you can...so i can give you some pointers
i'm hoping to make a thread on it someday when it's actually photo-worthy and not overrun with algae blooms and looking ghetto rigged.

i'm late to the party:
drinking - beer or red bull and vodkas or vodka tonics or beer and beer.
cars - duh
ice hockey - i played roller hockey all through high school and finally got a pair of ice skates last year and started playing once a week. damn its fun
softball - i know very few people that live in charlottesville and dont play softball. we have a team with people from work and its pretty much softball and beer drinking on thursday nights
i'm tryin to pick up the guitar more often. i used to play a lot my freshman year of college and into my sophomore year. its been rare for me to play since then.
i also am interested in becoming a better cook. i mean, i like eating so its only natural, but i'll admit it, i'm just not that good at it. i usually just pile hot sauce on everything and call it a meal.

if you can't take care of a freshwater you're certainly not going to keep up with a saltwater.
