what are your interests - ScottyB - 03-15-2006

thought it might be cool to have a thread in which we can tell the forum about what we like to do in our free time. if anything, it could be a neat way for those living close together (NoVa fools, those at JMU) to possibly get together and share an interest outside of cars, or simply to get to know people on the forum better.

kind of like Mike's "what cars have you owned thread"....post up a little list and a blurb next to each. Please refrain from posting passtimes like ramping motorcycles off of porches and setting stuff on fire

- Sijray21 - 03-15-2006

oh man i was just thinking about this...heres my list:

Main Interests:
modifying cars / hpde / restoration
motorcycles
Golf
Skiing (competitively/recreationally)
Photography
Electronics/gadgets
Club softball (used to play a LOT of baseball back in the day)

Other Interests:
Camping/Hiking
Road trips
Frisbee Golf
Poker (preferably in-person rather than online)
Snowboarding (still learning...it hurts)

Future interests:
developing/maintaining a personal website
Wine Tasting (went once)
Huskey Puppy/Dog(s) - always wanted one, but will wait until i can take care of one.... Sad
Paintball

In my free time i like to hang out with friends or go places and do things. Watching tv is ok, but i don't do much of that anymore. I used to play a lot of video games and was interested in PC gaming, but that kinda died down. During the warmer months i like working on my car, driving it, playing golf, camping/hiking/outdoors-ing, going on road trips (especially the beach). During the colder months i like eating at nice restaurants, skiing, watching movies/tv more, video gaming, and getting nicer clothing. I feel i like too many things and i like to do too many things.

There's never enough time to do what i want, and i suck at good time management. I'm getting better with prioritizing though - i need to buy a pda or some sort of personal calendar.

I've been spending a lot of time running and lifting in preperation for bmt. I am just starting to realize how some people get in the shape they are (hit the gym 6 days a week every week and you see results). It can become an addiction.

I've always been a very big reader.

I play mad 7 card stud and omaha hi/lo online.

I am into major league soccer and compete in the official fantasy league every year. I have to live through the pros because I havn't played in a league of my own in about a year and a half.

This year is especially exciting because of the world cup.

That's all I got.

Hrm... I usually have so many damn hobbies going that I can't keep 'em straight. At the moment, I'm enjoying:

Tinkering in the garage - this includes everything from simple electronics repair to small engine rebuilding. And of course dicking around with the motorcycle and the Lightning.

Dogs - I *love* playing with Maggie and Bruce - they're usually one of the highlights of any day. The general training has sort of fallen by the wayside in favor of just general goofing off.

Piano - Yes, I play the piano. Badly. But I'm playing for at least 30 minutes a day, and getting better. We picked up this nice little spinnet piano from a JMU CS prof over winter break - it was cheap and it sounds good. Maggie likes to lay across my feet while I play

Soccer - I play for a local rec team, with one of my officemates. The team sucks, but we're having a lot of fun and getting in better shape. This is my second season.

TV - I haven't followed TV shows in a long time. Went for almost 5 years without a TV at all actually. Lately though, I've been watching Battlestar Galactica, and all of the F1 / MotoGP / WSBK coverage. During football season, of course I'm watching the Redskins with a keen interest and a profane temperment.

We have tons of books - Jess teaches piano lessons. I just mess around, play (re: hack through) whatever looks interesting. Currently going through lots of the slower Beethoven stuff (Pathetique Sonata, etc) - because it sounds interesting and is slow enough for me to play easily within the first few trys

I'm up for another camping/canoeing trip, just so long as we get you something to eat besides whatever MRE gave you all that gas.
