ain't much compared to most of your projects, but i'm having fun.

i'll be installing a VDO boost gauge with custom matching backlighting soon along with the aftermarket pedals that should be here any day now.

pedals finally en route today after being backordered for a while.

OMP 1030 pedals....i'm really anxious to try them, they are malleable so i can adjust them to the curvature of my stock pedals and i'll be able to flip the brake pedal around so it suits my toe-toe downshift tendency better.

i ordered from motorspot.com btw, good customer service despite the wait.

eh, not much to report compared to most of yalls's (you guys's?) projects, but anyway...

got the OMP pedals in 2 weeks ago, i really enjoy them. although not really "bendy" they are malleable enough to be custom bent with a hammer and have a naturally rough surface. very nice hardware, with fairly wide washers and locknuts. i installed the throttle/brake pedal only, the clutch is just fine and by the time i was done cramming my face into the footwell i felt i'd suffered enough after 2 pedals were done. cost was under $20 total shipped from Cali, IIRC.

was it worth it? hells yes, for me it was. heel/toe is totally natural now.

Avon tech M550 tires were istalled two weeks ago also. so far they are surprising me with the amount of grip that is always in reserve. they are quiet and seem to track very true during everyday commuting, and the rain traction is unreal. i literally did a panic stop from 40 in the pouring rain and no ABS intervention at all. performance wise, i can only comment from a spirited driving perspective but they seem to be very affected by tire pressure and offer only a fair amount of feedback, nothing amazing. lots of grip though, and as i get my pressures figured out and the car aligned right they will get better.

was it worth it? for a do-it-all sporty tire under 90 bucks a pop i would say so. its obviously a big compromise but i'm surprised at how much the tire can do well. now we'll just have to see what kind of milage i can pull out of them.

pics to come later!

next up -- boost gauge and brake pads.

ugh...was driving with Jen on I-20W this monday and got boxed in behind a dump truck. just as i was saying to Jen, "i hate getting stuck behind dump trucks, they're always dropping dirt and crap all over the road...."

CRACK!

sounded like a gunshot, (we both yelled WTF at the same time) and now i have a nice divot chipped out of my windshield from a rock, right at head level on the driver's side. never even saw it, came out of nowhere. i can't imagine what it would have felt like had i been on a bike, because it would have hit square on the visor at that height.

probably won't bother to ever fix it. the descent into city-beater status continues Cry

how much is your deductible for your insurance - claim that a 10-wheeler threw a rock and cracked your windshield and you would like it replaced. You might be able to get it covered.

I used 89glass.com to replace the windshield on my civic when the thing cracked on my cross country trip. They come to your house or work and replace it on site. i also believe that they'll match/beat any offer that you'll find with any other company. Give them a call or send them an email.

..if it's not cracked you can get it "repaired" where they'll fill the glass, this is significantly cheaper than replacing the thing, something less than $75...maybe closer to $40

sweet....yeah it's not cracked, just a divot and some tiny rings around it. honestly i haven't really done any research at all yet.

true. thing was, i had to get behind the truck (which i hate to do) because i needed to get 3 lanes over to my exit, pronto. and honestly, i was so startled my only thought was to get as far away from the truck as possible.

So if you were coming up on your exit, why were you in the far left lane?

So if you were coming up on your exit, why were you in the far left lane?

i was in the far left because:

(A) GA highways are set up so that the right lanes will often simply become exit ramps. you can literally be driving along and the next thing you know you're leaving the highway

(B) i was going through center city so people were flooding onto the highway from the on ramps. i wanted to be away from that.

© as i came closer to my exit i was going to attempt to get ahead of the truck, then get over. thats when i got boxed in from a different car that was also trying to get over, and i had to get behind the dump truck.

edit: and yes, we have a few left hand exits also, mostly for HOV

anyway, enough with the windshield drama. thanks for the tips though.

new pedals, huzzah

you can see how far out i had to extend the brake pedal out and down to get it to where i am comfortable with it. what this pic doesnt show is how recessed the gas pedal is in the footwell. i hate that.

oh yeah....i have the clutch pedal left over (no hardware left though) which could be positioned into a brake pedal too. if anyone just wants to augment their stock pedals with a repositioned brake or clutch pedal lemme know, i don't have a use for this last pedal. i'll sell it for like 83 cents.

Bling on Scotty! I love the progression!

You know, it's only a matter of time before your Audi becomes a ginormously turbocharged AWD monster. You know this right. You're just taking the baby steps now before you jump off the cliff!
