son of a bitch.

clutch started slipping today. i can't even go near full throttle in any gear now. so now my plan to save up for a kick ass light weight flywheel and kevlar street disk may be dashed in the face of buying another stock POS.

ah, how the credit card company will love me.

well, if you're buying a stock one, just go a little farther and get a good clutch.

eh, go ahead and get the flywheel too. The credit card lets you do it, and it's worth it to do it now as opposed to going in there a second time to do it all over again. If I may offer a simple suggestion. You might want to change your rear main seal, since you'll be there anyways. I know the car has been driven all the time, so the seal should be good and lubricated with no chance to decompose, but if you're in there, some preventative maintenance is never a bad thing. Not sure how complex any of these tasks are, since I imagine you have an engine mounted perpendicular to the plane of the car and all the tranny work I've done has been in cars with parallel drivetrains. Just some food for though. Do the clutch and flywheel while you are down there though.

that's a good call. i'll have to get a quote on what it costs to do that process. i mean the car never leaks oil but at 67k i guess i should get it out of the way.

and as much as i just want to say, ah whatever and just buy another stock clutch and keep the stock flywheel.....i hate the flywheel. it weighs a ton and makes rev matching a chore, as well as just making the car feel sluggish any time i need response off-boost. and of course, i want to go with a bigger turbo eventually, at which time i'd rather not drop the engine again to put in a different clutch that can handle the power. so i'm really trying to find a way to get a better clutch and flywheel than stock.

ultimately this just isn't a good time for this to happen, but then again, i know many of you guys are in worse straights than i.

edit: did alot of searching and digging up old info i read in the past.....looks like it will just be an organic w/stronger pressure plate. it fits my budget and really, who am i kidding? i drive the car every day and probably won't track it much, i don't need a light weight flywheel.

latest round of maintainance and tests are done.

really really wanted a big boy clutch but had to settle for the stock Sach's unit. oh well, i don't launch the car, and if it lasted 67k with me learning to drive stick on it and my dad driving it (he's decent but not great) then i bet this one will last just as long.

rear main seal was replaced with the clutch, and the oil was changed and replaced with Amsoil XL 7500 5W30 and the newer spec "big" audi filter.

compression test yielded 190, 190, 200, 195....minimum spec is 101 psi. boost on

oil press. test yielded 55 to 60 psi at 2000 rpm (spec is 45 to 60) and 25-30 psi at idle. minimum idle pressure is 25...so this might be why my lifters sound all poopy at idle.

after driving the exploder and it's glacial-like speed for a day, i can't tell you how much i want back in my car!

Nice job....good compression numbers. I know how you feel wanting to drive the car so bad....my car has been down for a week for my turbo swap...oooh not cuz of anything like a broken bolt or something....I started and drained all fluids and took everything off except for the oil feed line which I was going to do the next day....so the next day I wake up with a nosebleed and im fucking coughing up blood. So it takes the entire weekend to get over this ghey ass sickness, then yesterday I have shitloads of homework to do..and so I was like YAY I can finish it up tomorrow....WELL NOW ITS FUCKING RAINING...goddamnit....I just want to thrwo this new turbo on and somehow invest in a good clutch and flywheel....

good to hear Scotty, looks like you've got a very healthy engine on your hands. Did you end up going with the stock flywheel?

stock, they're slow. chipped, a little less slow. if i was GOOD i could pull a high 14 out of it. the engine will rev to 7500 just fine on the stock head, but the turbo has nothing to offer past 5000. a mild bolt on turbo like a GT25 or a T28 will theoretically put me comfortably in the 13's for reference.

thankfully, around town and up to about 70 mph its pretty decent if the stupid intercooler isn't heat soaked.

the factory intake is awesome, but yeah...i can't wait to slap a nice gutter sized downpipe and exhaust on there. but i don't think Santa can carry a Mig welder in his sled.

ok just took a look at the cat-back exhaust for your car, i will never own a german vehicle....especially when it costs 899 for a high flow cat and 1200 for the catback exhaust...jesus Confusedhock:

haha yeah its retarded. not sure where you're looking though....i can get a Borla 2.5 inch catback for 550 or a Miltek catback for 900. but anyway, it explains why i want Santa to bring....

lol and that is why audis are not cheap pocket rockets lol. I would kill myself if I paid anything over 150 for a downpipe....

and hopefully santa will bring me a few fuel goodies so I can actually use this new turbo....
